| LOST 2/7/08 Discussion *SPOILERS* Well, what did you think of the episode last night??? That was not the plane for Oceanic flight 815 - that plane had a cockpit under water. The cockpit was on the island. And of course that wasn't the pilot. For some reason someone has planted a fake plane to find. So - who are the 4? They obviously believe that the 815 wreckage is fake too. Has Ben left the island in the past and returned? How else would people know who he is? Did you notice Hurley's visitor from last week? Is he part of an organization that wants to truly find the survivors, or that wants to cover up the truth of the crash?? That Ben, he makes me so sick. I wish Sawyer had finished him off.

| I thought it was a great episode last night. I'm curious as to what those people are doing on the island and why they want Ben.

| Loved last night's episode! I'm really curious about these new people and what their mission exactly is. Obviously they all have some sort of special role to play and I just wonder what those are. Also, if Naomi was to be responsible for getting them in and getting them out, what will happen now that she's dead? I thought it was interesting when the helicopter pilot asked Juliet her name and then told his team that she was a "native". We know she's not a native because she was brought there by Ben & that so-called medical group in Oregon that Richard was part of. Oh, and when Naomi first came to the island she had the picture of Desmond and said that's who they were looking for but now this group says they're there for Ben? What's up with that? And what's with the Dharma polar bear being in the desert in Tunisia? How the heck did it get there?

| Ahh Lost...nothing like thinking you're going to get some answers to some questions - Locke to Ben - "What's the smoke monster?" and then getting about 1239823984798732 more questions.

| I didn’t know they were re-running last week’s episode the hour before this week’s. I am going to have to make a point to watch those each week to pick up on stuff I missed the first time around. I only got to re-watch about twenty minutes of last week’s episode, but noticed Hurley was drawing a picture of an igloo. I didn’t catch that last week and I thought that was a strange thing for him to be drawing. Then I thought of the polar bears and wondered if there was any significance. And then this week, there’s a polar bear skeleton in the desert with a Dharma collar to boot! OK, so the rescue team consists of an Anthropologist, a Physicist, a pilot and a ghost buster? And of course, Naomi, who claimed she was in the business of search and rescue. Other than her and Frank, the pilot, what an odd combination of professions to be sent to the island. It seems apparent whoever is behind sending them to find the island knows of, or suspects, it’s oddity and the supernatural happenings. And what’s up with Frank seeing a cow? Ben really looked confused by John’s question about the smoke monster and what it was. Almost as if he had no idea what he was talking about, or perhaps confused that he was able to see it. Or, perhaps he was just being Ben and playing dumb. Why do they want Ben? And who is his man on the freighter? Michael? Are Michael and Walt on that ship and they are part of the Oceanic Six? Is Michael the body in the coffin that Jack went to the funeral home to see in last seasons finale? That would explain why no one was there and I remember something about whoever it was in the coffin being survived by a teenage son. Is the plane in the ocean a decoy? And if so why? Who would go to such lengths to plant a fake plane and bodies? WHY? WHY? WHY? I read something on Lostpedia that I thought was a fun piece of trivia. Charlotte’s full name, as Ben said, is Charlotte Staples Lewis and that is a reference to Clive Staples Lewis, better know as C.S.Lewis. I thought the reference to the author of “The Chronicles of Narnia” was very cool. I love how they throw those little things in there. I also love that it is yet another reference to something Disney.

I thought it interesting that the anthropologist, (can't remember her name) went digging straight for the neck area, like she knew there would be a collar there, and that it would have the Dharma logo on it.

Nala, I think the cow came from Mikayla's farm. Ben - don't trust him, he is a master actor. I'll bet you money he knows exactly what the monster is. I thought the same thing, that Michael is his man on the ship. But I'm thinking Ben has someone more sophisticated than that doing his dirty work. However, I don't think Michael would go back to civilazation as himself and with other survivors, because they can finger him for 2 murders. I thought all along that Michael was in the casket, but now I'm not so sure. I thought Michael because he would be the one who would know the way back to the island, and his death would devastate Jack because that was his last hope to return. Quote:

| Daniel ... don't know what's up with him, why did the news of the plane crash freak him out so much? Maybe he had already been tapped for the job before he saw news of the crash? Miles ... what about young Eko's picture being on the woman's wall? Was it Eko's ghost he was there to take care of, or possibly Yemi's? Based on the timing, I don't think Eko would have been dead yet. Or maybe Eko and Yemi are not her grandsons, and there is just some other connection to her somehow. Why was he looking for the money? To fund the trip? Charlotte ... she is so hyper she is getting on my nerves. She just couldn't keep her mouth shut the whole episode. And why would there be a polar bear in the desert? I can't remember ... was there a station logo on the collar, or just a general Dharma logo? Because if it was a Hydra logo, surely there's only the one Hydra station in the world. Frank ... I like him. I don't know why. Why was he the one that was supposed to pilot that flight, and why was he not onboard? I can't remember ... did he even mention if he wanted off the flight, or if the other pilot wanted on the flight? I think he saw the cow just because it would be something funny and unexpected to have happen, the last thing you would expect to see on the island. I think he was just referring to everybody not on the flight manifest as a native. Not trying to distinguish between Others/Hostiles/Dharma Initiative people. Ben ... When he opened his mouth and started talking, I thought he was going to say something about the smoke monster. So I was confused when he said "her" name is Charlotte, I was thinking, they named the monster Charlotte???!!! I'm sure he has been off the island several times. Who knows how long he has been in charge since the purge? Or have they said? Perhaps he has taken an active role in some of the recruiting that has happened over the years. But I don't think he has left recently, at least not in the 3 years that Juliet has been on the island. He has to have too much of a public face to rule these people. I think Richard is in charge of that now. The picture they had of Ben ... was that taken on- or off-island? Maybe somebody involved in this whole mission used to be on the island and somehow escaped and is out for vengeance. But you're right, how does Ben always have somebody in the exact place he needs information? But how has he been getting this information recently? Communications were knocked out thanks to the hatch imploding, or was his most recent report simply a statement of who had been picked for the mission? Oceanic "attorney" ... an attorney to help the survivors, or an attorney to cover up everything? I'm not sure he is an attorney at all. How many attorneys do you know that would never have a business card on them? Naomi ... perhaps she was in charge of multiple missions. Maybe she was also supposed to find Desmond (not for Penny, maybe for Penny's dad?), or maybe she had simply been informed of who Desmond was, in case she was to run across him. How long has she been in this line of work? She seemed pretty experienced. Locke ... I LOVED the interplay between him, Hurley and Ben talking about the cabin! But I don't like him saying that they didn't want to be found. He is taking charge of everybody, making it sound like they are all in agreement on this. And while they may not want to be found by these people in particular, most of them do want to get off the island. Maybe not to go back to their old lives, but to at least live in civilation again, somewhere. That's quite an assortment of people Locke has with him, isn't it? 6 more to go!

However, I'm not really putting together the significance of Eko still being alive on the island vs. the grandson being dead in the real world. The grandson died as an 18-19 year old; Eko died as a grown man. Can you explain your meaning a little furthur? There have been suggestions (based on the Find 815 Alternate-Reality Game that aired over several weeks before the new season started - BTW, the game's ending coincided with the season premiere, and "You" as the player were actually the one guiding the Christiane 1 that found the wreckage of the ship...but I digress), that "time" on the island moves much slower than "time" in the real world. They base this on the fact that during the game, there was a stock ticker running at the bottom of the newscast that announces the finding of the wreckage. Some genius wizard looked up the stocks, researched their dates, and found that the stock ticker coincided with a date in 2006, not 2004, which is what we're still assuming it's taking place in. *Edit - I forgot to add that, in addition to the Lost ARG questioning the time-difference between Real World and Island, that producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have hinted around (in a LOST podcast) to the fact that time may not be the same on the island as well. A reader submitted a question essentially asking about the Island possibly taking place in a different time/space continuum. Their reply was that it was a very "perceptive" question, and as Lindelof started to elaborate (using the Red Sox winning the World Series tape vs. the day the sky turned purple as examples), Cuse cut him off very abrubtly. Anyway, that's my two bits for what it's worth. I hope what I'm saying makes more sense than I think it does. ![]()

| re: Eko being the ghost in the house ... was the person of the ghost given an age? If so I missed it. I was just thinking about whose ghost it was, assuming it was Eko or Yemi. Yemi died some time prior to the crash of Oceanic, so it could have been his ghost Miles was communicating with. However, Eko had only died a few episodes prior to this one, so by that time Miles would have already been on the freighter and would not have been communicating with Eko's ghost. If anybody has a screen capture of that photo, please post! It sure looked like the little boy that played young Eko. If not, it'd be nice to try and figure out who it was.

| Christie, If you click on the "screen caps" hyperlink on my last post, it'll take you to the picture. I couldn't get it to post on here for some reason. I swear I heard the grandmother say the boy's age during the show, but, if she didn't, then I must've figured it based on the way his room was decorated. ![]() ![]()

| I totally missed the whole Eko/Yemi connection to the woman who Miles visited. But, they weren't from the US, so how could they be related to her? I was wondering more about him stealing the money. I thought too she was talking about a teenager, but I can't remember why. I'll have to watch that episode agin! Are they on the ABC site yet?
