YAY! I have to get out of India before I go back to Disney, though.
Lucky you Sandy! I'm sure you will have a great time. Actually it is perfect timing for our trip to Indonesia - sit out in the humid Florida heat and pretend your right there with Liz.

Absolutely, I think we can even hang onto baggage from non-romantic relationships. What great advice.

Amen

I'll post more later.
Great to see you back.

Interesting. And this trip will be completely different from the last one. Even though I'll be staying at the Coronado Springs 1 day and Dolphin 2 days, I don't think I'll even be venturing into the parks. Just lying by the pool, relaxing, having a Pina Colada or a Marguerita, and enjoying myself. I also won't be completely alone this trip like last time. The friend I'm going with is also a sort of spiritual guide for me in many ways. She is a business coach with all sorts of training, and she is SO insightful!

OK, finishing up India here!

One comment on bead 60: I LOVE the concept that God loves to feel things through our hands. What an amazing thought! I swear some mystic must have thought that some time before because it is too huge to have been missed so far. Since I read that, every time I've felt that appreciating things with my senses is a great blessing to God. Smelling roses, looking at my flowers, eating the most amazing dessert (exotic bombe-mango and passion fruit sorbet inside a hard white chocolate shell).

OK, bead 61-DDuff, I'm cultivating gratitide also. I liked the concept of recognizing that we've been given a pretty cushy situation life situation compared to many others alive today. I was also curious about Richard leaving, Teri. I already know the answer to your question and I'm not telling! I'll give a hint-there is a MAJOR spoiler opportunity early on in the book club history on just the topic of who Liz ends up with, but you have to look close and make some inferences.

Bead 62- I've been talking too much would be my mantra if I could stop talking long enough to fit it in.

loved the comment on how thinking about "how important" a goal or project will be gets in the way.

Bead 63-life hands us employment opportunities that really do make us have to laugh. If you are open to it, amazing things show up.

Bead 64- loved making peace with who you are. I liked that she realized about interrupting- a habit I have that I try to stop.

Bead 65-Fascinating concept, that our own inner minds can be our greatest unexplored territory. I agree with your observations on fear, Dduff.

Bead 66-I NEED TURIYA!!! Loved the Tolstoy beggar story!

Bead 67-Again, I agree with Dduff, and couldn't say it better.

Bead 68-I HATE when my thoughts do their "little show-off dance" like Liz's. It is SO distracting from the task at hand.

I like when she realizes she is in India in her sandals. I usually have moments like that when I tour WDW, and I get SOO excited. I love being able to go places!

Bead 69-"that shimmering line between your old thinking and your new understanding" and "the mysterious forest of the unkown always stays a few feet ahead of you, so you have to travel light". BEAUTIFUL!

I think I must be an ANTEVASIN! I am definitely a border person. I've always felt that if I wasn't living on the edge, I'm taking up too much space.

Bead 70, Dduff-are you Methodist? Me too! LOL! Cat tied to a Pole! How true! I applaud the author's courage. No wonder so many feathers were ruffled!

Bead 71-and 72 India! Thanks for letting us visit!

Ok, I have to admit that I have been cheating! Even if I haven't open the book yet (husband's rule!) I have been reading your comment and I just can'T wait to read my book!
Here in montreal, I haven't heard a lot about this book, only that is in the top sellers and that it is a "coup de coeur" for many peoples who works in book store! But none of my friends of family have heard about this book!

I hope to have some time ti read in WDW next week and to be able to read a little bit because it sound very interesting...

some more questions...

How does a book club work? Sorry, I never been in one (or even heard of one near my house! I don't even think that they existe in my area) I sure saw some book club in movies or tv shows but they mostly are an excuse for women to drink! I have girls night out for that!!!

SO I was wondering, do you take notes? Do you underline or highlight some passage you like? What should I do and get with me when I'll start reading!!!

Also, when will I know what's gonna be the next book so I can be on top of things and start at the same times as you!

Thanks a lot for your answers...

Well, this works by reading the book and commenting. Online is great because you can comment whenever you like. We are going week-by-week, but you don't have to do it that way if you don't want to. We tried to pace it slow enough for busy schedules. We've chosen to go bead by bead BUT you can feel free to just post general comments or a . Please don't feel pressured at all! Oh, and feel free to drink, as long as you are not driving to your computer!

I personally have been underlining each bead and writing a few notes in margins. This is the way I read most of my books, since it makes finding key points easier later. I sink my teeth into good books like a good piece of filet mignon. You can underline, highlight, or, if you are not one to pick through details, just skim and post your general ideas!

I'm not sure what the next book will be. We kind-of voted on this one. At this pace, we should be done in five weeks unless we decide to speed it up to see how it ends. I guess I should post a new thread to vote on the next book, since only a few people check into this one.

I have enjoyed this SO much, that I am sure we will start right up with a new book.

Please join us, please enjoy and thank you so much for popping in!

Thanks very much for the explanations. I started the book last night even if DH didn't want me too! I had a hard time putting it down... I'll comment later.

As for the next book, if I can find it in french, I will be more than happy to join you.

My thoughts on finishing up India...

Bead 61 - Sad to say good-bye to Richard . Her "angel with hiary hands and cruddy tonails." I'll miss his wisdom and humor.

Bead 62 - I admire her ability to socialize in any situation, but I do agree that there is a time for silence. I found her vision of herself amusing and found myself anxious to see just how long her silence would last!

Bead 63 - I guess they admire her ability to socialize too!

Bead 64 - My favorite quote from this bead is "Make peace with what you are given." So many people spend so much time and energy trying to be like someone else that they never learn to appreciate who and what they are. God gave us all unique gifts for a reason, we need to learn to find them and use them.

Bead 65 - Looks like she finally found her calling! I like the thought Danell gave about people acting out because they are afraid.

Bead 66-67 - Not too many thoughts on these beads. I think because I am not into yoga or meditation, I struggled through these beads and understanding the place she was at. The main thing that stood out was her search for happiness through out her life and not realizing that it was right there the entire time. I am happy that she finally found that.

Bead 69 - I like her word, it fits her well.

Bead 70 - The cat thing amused yet horrified me. Being the loving owner of two cats, I can't imagine tying them up! This is a great example of why God tells us to not worship idols, it's way to easy to loose our focus from where it should be. I totally agree with her on the "cherry picking" your religion. In the past 16 years depending on our geographic location and what best fit our family we've gone from Methodist to Presbytarian to Baptist!

Quote:
Beads 71 and 72: I celebrated the fact that during her stay at the Ashram Liz was able to find acres of grace.

I've enjoyed India, but I wouldn't say I liked it better that Italy. I'm ready to move on and see what Indonesia brings for Liz!

I'd like to vote for The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. If you start a thread I'll hunt for it and post my vote there as well.

Great Point Lisa! I guess not only should we accept the gifts that God has given each of us but also be more tolerant of the gifts he gives to others. I'm going to try to remember that when dealing with my DD and DS. and maybe even DH

I'm sure we have all attended churches where some of the parishoners get upset when the service doesn't follow the traditional schedule. I can remember in the church I grew up in when a new pastor would change things around some of the older members getting really upset. I think this bead has me understanding why the Methodist church believes in moving the pastors around so much. Our focus should be on our own relationship with God and not this person standing at the front of the church.

I agree with Lisa that I think I actually enjoyed Italy more, I am glad that Liz found inner peace and I did enjoy Richard's comments, but I think I had more "ah ha" moments in Italy. Looking forward to the next section...
