| I've been dying to finish this book so I could read this spoiler thread! I really liked this book. I wasn't initially interested in the Twilight series but once I started it I couldn't stop. I really love those books. The first one was dead-on for me- as far as teens falling in love, being overwhelmingly attracted to someone. Those books really took me back to my younger, dating days. This book was so different. I'm so jealous of Stephenie Meyer that her mind can come up with such brilliant stories. I wondered from the start how Wanderer and Melanie would part company- and hoped it wouldn't end in one of their deaths. I loved Ian. I thought that was an interesting plot point to the story- the physical and emotional attraction to Jared (by Wanderer) wasn't returned since he really loved Melanie. And then Ian did his turnaround and showed his true self and Wanderer didn't know how she felt about him initially. Have you ever liked or thought you loved two guys at the same time? I remember liking two guys and both wanting to date me (those were the days!) and being really confused. I can't even imagine having to share a body with another mind, although sometimes my conscience is like another mind and has very strong control. ![]() At the end I spent some time thinking about the sequel idea. I wondered if Stephenie felt that she had more to tell with those characters or if she felt it was complete as one novel. I didn't feel that this book needed a sequel like I did with Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse. I want that series to go on forever. I too got teary when Ian said he held her in his hand and she was beautiful. They call this her first adult novel, but I didn't feel that the Twilight series was only for teens- I thought it was for adults too. Do you think this book is for teens as well? I think my 14 and 16 year olds (girl and boy) would enjoy it.

| Hello! I have a friend who read the Twilight books and loved them, and wanted someone to read them to discuss. I read them all and enjoyed them as well (team Jacob here, thank you very much!), so naturally I got The Host. Now even with the Twilight books being "young adult" and The Host being "adult," I didn't really notice much difference. I think teens would be fine with The Host. I loved the idea of this book, but I thought the book was just ok. I thought it was hard to get into at first, with all the strange terms - host, comforter, seeker. I guess the Twilight books were so easy to get into I didn't expect this. But once I got into it, I did enjoy it and find it a fast read. I guess maybe I didn't love this book because I don't like the idea of earth being taken over. Usually I enjoy scifi and horror. I thought the characters were very real, and I think it would be a good movie. I agree that Ian was very sympathetic and attractive. I also liked that he held Wanderer in his hands, and found her beautiful even in true form. Beth |

Have you read any of the Harley Jane Kozak books? I just started her third and really loved the first two. They're mysteries, but funny as well. Beth | |

| DD (who is 14) and I just had a discussion about the guys. She is with you on team Jacob - me I'm all about the Edward. I blame it on Angel and Spike from Buffy - I'm a huge vampire fan. Plus, I love that he is stilll trying so hard to keep her human.
