| Great kids book to recommend My 12-yo DS saw this series of books on a table at Sam's Club a week ago. Home | Rick Riordan (The Percy Jackson & The Olympians Series): We snagged the first book (The Lightning Thief) and he DEVOURED it in a day -- reading late into the night and waking up first thing to finish it. I had to promise to take him back for more books that afternoon! I decided to read it too (I'm a huge fan of Children's Lit) and I just finished it. It was wonderful, smart, funny, adventurous and -- due to the tie-in with Greek mythological characters -- quite educational. I highly recommend it! Eileen

| I think so -- it wasn't difficult to read and was a quick adventure. I'm off to start the second book! Eileen

| Andrew enjoys these also....Lightning Thief was on his Battle of the Books list and that is how he got hooked! Right now he is reading Lord of the Flies....think he would much prefer to be reading about Percy Jackson instead! danielle

| I've picked that one up lots of times at Barnes & Noble, but never bought it. Glad to know it's a good read. I'll add it to the list of ideas for DD

| DS12 bought the first book in the series at his school's book fair last year, and blew through it - which pleasantly surprised me, since he's not as much of a recreational reader as DH and I are! So far, he's enjoyed the series quite a bit - Laurie

| I just finished the third book and am off to the store to buy the 4th. Anyone know if there will be a 5th? (It's structured for one adventure for one year with a "big event' to happen when he's 16. The first book started when he was 12, the second when he was 13 and so on.) It makes sense that there would be a 5th book, but I can't find anything about it. Eileen

| I'm pretty sure Kylor has read 'The Lightning Thief'. I don't know if he read the rest of the series - altho my guess would probably be yes

| Ellen or Tina do you think they would be good read aloud for a 4th or 5th grade class? My daughter is looking for something to read to her class.

| I'm going to look into these for Jack. He's a voracious reader, and we have trouble keeping up with his habit. I'm pretty sure I've seen them at our school library...thanks for the tip!
