I resisted, but it sucked me in!!

I read the first 10 pgs of Twilight on amazon.com and wasn't too impressed. I even told DH that everyone seems to be loving these books, but I didn't know what the big deal was. The very next day my BFF emailed me and said that she'd read this amazing book, and that I had to read it! You guessed it, Twilight! So Wed afternoon I borrowed it from another DF's DD and had it read by Fri morning! I bought New Moon at B&N last night, and picked up Eclipse and Breaking Dawn at Costco for 40% off.

I'm hooked!! Augh!!!
ps DH laughed at me and my new addiction

I might be in the same boat soon - one of my best friends has been bugging me for weeks to read it so we can talk about it. I bought it last week but haven't started it yet. She warned me that it started a little slow, but that she got so into it she finished it in one day. I'm looking forward to reading it --- hope I like it as much as she does.

I have a question about this series, were they written for young readers? Bit are good for adults?

They are marketed for a "young readers" market, but I think they are exceptionally good books and read very well for adults.

I also like Stephanie Meyer's The Host, which was written for the "adult" market, but has a similar tone to the Twilight books.
Eileen

PS - Scarlett, get crackin' on those books!

I think I'm about to be sucked in too. A friend's DD (who just left for college this weekend) was SHOCKED when I told her I had not read this series. When my friend finishes the first book, it's coming my way.

What does "young adult" mean when it comes to these books? Would that include the 10-12 year old age range? My DD10 has wanted to read these, but I haven't heard of anyone her age who has read them. Any advice?

My DF's DD who I borrowed book #1 from is 14. I would say that they're for the middle school aged girl, 12-14 at least. There's nothing physical besides kissing in book #1 (can't vouge for 2-4 yet!), but the intensity of their love for each other probably is a bit mature for a 10 year old. Also, while not really violent, there are a few intense vampire moments.

They're written for young adults, but I know of 2 of my 30something girlfriends that love them like I'm loving them. They're classic love stories, and when the main character had to study Romeo and Juliet for school that seemed pretty ironic.

Just be prepared, that yes Twilight starts a little slow, but once you get sucked in it'll be hard to put down!!

I traveled with a group of 11 and 12 year olds this summer and many of the girls were reading/read one or more of these books on our trip. They were loving it and talked about it so much that I want to read them now. I've got them on hold at the library, but probably won't get them til next year! I'll probably be buying them when I'm done with my current stack of reading.

They are for teens as younger girls might not be able to appreciate the relationship between Belle and Edward.... and I do think girls like this series more than guys---heck even grown woman like me really love this series, although mixed feelings on Breaking Dawn.... but I loved the Host....

My DD has finally gotten it! She just turned 13.
Her BFF and I kept telling her to read them. She's now in the middle of the second book. I can't tell you how happy I am to see her actually reading and finishing a book for fun! (She does not like to read).

Update. She finished New Moon last night and we HAD to go borrow Eclipse from her BFF. So she's about 100 pages into it. I can't believe she's reading so fast. Especially since when you ask her if she likes the books, she just shrugs her shoulders.

Shy, quiet girl moves to live with her dad in a rainy part of WA state, and falls in love with a vampire. It's an emotional, passionate (not physically though) series, that is written in very simple form yet it pulls you in! Go to amazon.com and look up Stephenie Meyer, or go to her website StephenieMeyer.com -- The Official Website of Stephenie Meyer for more info.

A co-worker came to my rescue today and brought me Twilight to start on. She said she didn't really like it, but that's the first I've heard of that. I'll get back to you all, Zoie has bassoon lessons tonight, so I plan to start it while I'm waiting...

I went to Walmart tonight and there were 2 ladies discussing the books in the book isle. They were saying how good the series is. And how much they really enjoyed the first book.
