| The introduction says there are three main objectives: 1: To convince us that decisions made quickly can be as good as those that are made cautiously and deliberately. 2: To be more aware of when we should trust our instincts and when we should be careful of them. 3: To help our snap judgments and first impressions to be more educated and controlled. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMM! That is a tall order. Do you think achieving those objectives could help you out in everyday life? As for me, I have to say a big YES!!!!!!!! I happen to have great intuition, but the minute my emotions or my desires get involved, I ignore what I know to be true and start making a mess of things. I'm also one who loves to move quickly and be dynamic, but I can easily get bogged down in stupid details. If this book can deliver what it promises, then I think life will go much better for me! We will have to see. I have not read it yet!

| I finally got a copy from the library... But yes, you want and need a paramedic to make snap judgements. Might save your life one day... So, it is my job to be judgemental! But -- if you rely solely on that, you will fail on the training manikins or 'mock' patients as you can't 'read' them the same way as you can a real patient.

| I have been interested in intuition, and it seems like that is sort of what he's talking about. I have started the book and I'm really enjoying it! Beth

| I've been thinking, as I read the intro, about how I must appear on first impression. I mean, if it is THAT important, maybe I should think a little more about how I present myself. I like to think that appearance is not important, but according to this book, it may be. Also, there are alot of those non-verbal appearance issues that make a BIG difference.

| I think appearance is important, Sandy. But, probably not in the quick snap judgement way. I think the way you carry yourself and speak is extremely important as this is the way that people will decide how credible you are. I am hoping that this book will help me prepare for nursing school in the fall. |

I've finished the introduction and am well into the first chapter. I wonder how much of our intuition has been distorted over the past decade in deference to "political correctness." Here is my example and I know it is not PC. When the kids were little, we lived in small town Indiana. At one of the local stores there was a one armed man who worked as a bagger. Although my immediate reaction to him was one of unease (he gave me the willies), I purposefully would choose his lane whenever possible. In my good mother mind, I was trying to demonstrate to my children that disabilities do not matter. Imagine my horror when one summer day I open the newspaper to discover this man had been arrested with a young woman duct taped in the back of his van! I would love to know if it is possible to cultivate our "intuition" while weeding out unconsious prejudice. Can we become more aware of what is ingrained bias and what is true intuition?

It takes practice and discussion with others that understand what you are trying to do. I think the first step is understanding what your possible biases are. I have worked with both a diverse workforce and a diverse population and am still learning... I wish we could get some cops in here, too...

I think your stuff...baggage...issues...unresoved conflicts...whatever you want to call it can really clog your intuition antennae. I think that is why I believe it is so important to be self-aware and ruthlessly honest with yourself. Another bugaboo is emotions. I like the point about the art collector who allowed himself to become emotionally attached to his purchase, to the point that he was unable to make good choices. I'll have to see if that author bio is in my copy. Sounds intersting!
