They used to way back when . . . now the Disney Channel shows the Playhouse Disney stuff in the mornings and then after that show Phineas and Ferb, Wizards of Waverly Place, Hannah Montana . . . all the tween shows.

I remember back when the Disney Channel first came on the air and they had a show called "Donald Duck Presents" that showed old Donald cartoons. I miss that show.

Unfortunately, the old cartoons haven't been shown regularly in several years. There are compilations available on DVD, but the Disney Channel and Disney XD focus almost exclusively on newer shows and recent movies.

I strongly suspect that the main reason my father bought a VCR in the mid-80s was so he could record Good Morning Mickey!, a compilation of vintage cartoons, each day on the Disney Channel. He found a checklist of all of the Disney shorts and checked them off as they showed up in the shows he taped. I think he had about 80% of the cartoons by the time he stopped taping the show. (He recorded over any repeat shows.) That show went off the air at least ten years ago, I think, when Disney started showing newly-created preschool shows in the morning instead. Bear in the Big Blue House and Stanley were great, but I agree that the Disney Channel shouldn't forget its roots either.

I remember when there was a show called "the house of mouse" when the microphone was the mc of the show and the old cartoons would be shown but those days are gone now. Now it is nothing but tween shows.

I haven't seen the older cartoons recently on the Disney channel. However if you know the name of a certain cartoon or old movie reel you can find a lot of them on youtube. I have search several cartoons for my dad who is in his 70s (he remembers a ton of old stuff) and found them. I have even search by character and year in general and found interesting ones to watch. Hope this helps!

I keep wishing they would start a "Vault Disney" channel and show all those classic cartoons, as well as the old Disney tv shows (Davy Crockett, etc.).

I don't know why they think kids won't watch those old cartoons - they play in every lobby of every Disney resort, and kids are constantly glued to them. I mean, you're at WDW and they want to watch cartoons - must be good!

That used to be my FAVORITE show when I was little!!!!!!!! And I miss it dearly! I watched it every day! (Probably why I love Donald Duck so much! ;D)
I always say, they need to have a show similar on The Disney Show, if not "Donald Duck Presents". I love the old cartoon shorts!
