| Where the Wild Things Are -- Thread may contain spoilers. Anyone else see this? We have a long weekend because of the state teachers union meeting, so DD and I went to a matinee this morning. In short, two thumbs up. This may count as a spoiler, so... Visually, it's pretty spectacular. And naturally, they took a few liberties with the story -- but that's to be expected when they turn a 20 page picture book into a 2 hour movie. I thought it was pretty true to the concept of Max's imagination creating a world where he is in control. Though I didn't like that he ran away from home to do it. And there was no indication of a search for him. Would much have prefered he went to bed without supper like in the book. Anyway, I thought it was a bit draggy in the middle and could have been edited up a bit. There weren't many of us in the theater. Based on the crowd there, though, I'd say it's more for older kids who have outgrown the book and remember it fondly, than for the younger set currently reading the book. The family behind us had preschoolers. One talked though most of the show. Another family behind us had 4 kids who looked to be 1st grade and younger. Two of them spent much of the movie running up and down the steps in the theater. Which wouldn't have been bad except that the little boy had those shoes that light up when you step... so I kept getting flashes in my peripheral vision. I'm relating these tales not to start a thread on parents allowing their kids to misbehave in theaters, but to point out that the movie didn't seem to hold the attention of the younger set.

| I took my 6 yr. old (boy) & 9 yr. old (girl) last night...we all thought it was a really good movie. At one point I look @ both of the kids & they were crying, we were all crying. The movie held their attention, nobody talked or even asked to go potty (a sure sign it's boring them). I can't say it's the best movie ever but there were some parts in there that made me HAPPY (let the wild rumpus start!)

| I loved reading this book to the kids! Jamie thinks it looks kinda scary (she's 11, so I don't know what she's referring to!) and the boys have no interest in seeing it. I'll rent it when it comes out on DVD though.

| Thanks for the review! I loved this book as a kid and read it to DD who loved it too. I was wondering how they made the little book into a big movie. We'll wait for DVD on this one.
