Just returned from seeing "Alice in Wonderland." It rocks! We loved it. Visually stunning. Something to watch every minute. One would have to watch it several times to catch everything going on (and this was on an IMAX/3D screen). Tim Burton lives up to his creative genius. Mia Wasikowska was perfect as Alice. And no one can Futterwack like Johnny Depp!
OMG I thought the movie was great. The scenery, the costumes, the artwork, the 3D effects and most of all the Mad Hatter, Alice and the Red Queen. Johnny Depp IS the Mad Hatter. He totally makes you believe he is bonkers . Helena Bonham Carter was great with her portrayl of the Red Queen and the girl who played Alice was just wonderful for the part. I'm sorry that it is not getting great reviews but we thought it was top notch. And by the way, my 6 year old grandson was not afraid one bit. It's really not as dark as the commercials made it seem. Loved it Loved it Loved it.

We didn't see it in IMAX, or even in 3D, but loved it just the same, and 7 year old grandson gave it two thumbs up! I didn't think it was all that scary, but then...
We took our 8year old and our soon to be 6 year old. We all loved it but it was just on the threshhold of being too much for our youngest. She brought a stuffed animal and a little blanket to hide her head in case she got scared but she really really wanted to try seeing it. The blanket came out a few times but she was glad that she decided to come to the movie.
I think a child forced to see that movie would have a really rough time with it.
I tried to go in with very few expectations, and I ended up liking this movie more than the rest of my family did. My seven year old adored it as well. My 12 and 14 year olds thought it was okay, and my husband, who is not a fan of Tim Burton, Johnny Depp or CGI (not sure why he came, really!) hated it. My youngest and I laughed out loud at several places, and thought it was great that Alice was older in this than in the original story. Burton made a story that had nice continuity and was visually stunning, and it didn't creep me out nearly as much as the original Alice story does. Depp does such a good job immersing himself in his characters that you almost forget the hatter is him. The only thing I longed for was captioning, as between the made-up words and the accents I felt like I missed a lot of the dialogue - oh well, might just need to go see it again to find out what I missed!
