I had been eagerly awaiting this movie like many others--I even did the Amazon pre-order of the DS game to get the $20 credit!
I liked it...but not as much as I was expecting to. We saw Tangled in the theater 3 times and countless times since in our home. "Up" has become a movie with many repeat showings at our house as well. I cannot see this one getting numerous viewings.
My DD (ASD/8) was so freaked out during a few parts of it I had to remind her that Disney movies always have happy endings and guide her through some breathing exercises. My littler one was freaked out to a more typical extent. My boy loved it. After they happy ending...the girls had nothing but rave reviews--but it was a bit intense.
UPDATE: WookiePants (my significant other) and I just came home from Brave. Don't listen to those dumb "experts". They don't know squat.
My fellow PassPorters, if you love Disney, Pixar and good stories, you will love this. We laughed so hard, and I have to admit that I teared up a few times. The animation was incredible - how does Pixar do it?? I thought Tangled was outstanding, but this was even better! The bonding between Merida and her mom was really touching, and teaches kids that although moms and daughters don't always see eye to eye, they can still love each other very much. And the characters in the show were fantastic.
I thought it was awesome that our protagonist doesn't need a love interest, and Merida is now my favorite princess. Her brothers and the kings men are a hoot!
I think this is a fun show and it is totally in our "top 5".

I agree w/ this. I liked it too, not sorry I saw it at all, but it was no Tangled (although to be fair, Tangled is in my top 3 Disney movies ever).
A sweet story though, with funny moments, and as others have said, the storyline being about much more than a princess finding a husband was refreshing.
The 10 girls at my daughter's Brave birthday party loved the movie. We did overhear a couple of times, "this part looks scary...let's hold hands." And then looked over to see 10 girls holding hands through the scary parts. Priceless!!!

OMG - that sounds just too cute!!
We just saw the movie - with only 2 other families in the theater. Now - it's the worst theater in the county, the better one was probably packed, but it was a 9pm showing on Monday night.
That said; great movie. Loved it. Loved that Merida didn't NEED a Prince to save her.
The girls and I thought it was great. Kathryn and her BF have seen it twice, and still had a great time. The fact that the castle was modeled after Urquhart Castle, which the girls remember visiting, just made the movie that much cooler.

I had no idea that's what castle it was based on! I have visited the ruins of Urquhart castle too. Very neat! I might have to see it again now so I can pay more attention to that...
I took my two teens to see it yesterday ($5 movie Tuesday). We all thought it was fun. Lots of laughter and lots of scary. The movie was stunning in it's beauty and the music was really wonderful. We all agreed it really was not a movie for young kids though.
(DS18 thought it was a bit predictable...he had it worked out in his head what would happen before it did, and he thought the Wil o the Wisps were used incorrectly...they are supposed to lead people to their death in many of the old stories).
I think we'll buy it when it comes out on DVD (especially since DH didn't get to go as he had a midterm to take in a class last night).
My brother called me to talk about it on Sunday, but since we hadn't seen it yet, we couldn't really discuss. He felt it was missing something.....more music (sung by characters). I'm not sure I go with that, but I understand it.
Added: I wanted to mention the previews we saw: The Hobbit, Transylvania Motel, and Ice Age (3?)
The short, La Luna, was a great little addition. Loved it.
Location: A little over 1000 miles from my happy place!

Saw it over the weekend. Didn't love it, but really liked it if that makes sense. The animation was absolutely beautiful and the short before was a very sweet story. The friction/love between Merida and her mother was spot on. Would have loved to see more mayhem and mischief from the triplets though. They were hilarious! All in all Pixar did not disappoint again, although Toy Story 3 and Up remain my favs.
Is it worth going to see in 3D if I've already see it in 2D?
I don't feel it is. I am not a huge fan of 3D, but there are some movies that I think are greatly enhanced by it (Lion King, Titanic for examples). I saw Brave in 3D and didn't once think "Wow, this looks amazing due to the 3D."
We went to see Brave last weekend, and my DDs and I all loved the movie. It was kinda scary for them here and there, but the story was great, and the unexpected twists and turns, mysticism, the landscape, everything was great. Just like I knew Disney/Pixar would create. I highly recommend it.
Took the fam this weekend. We all enjoyed it... and I admit I cried at the end! The mother-daughter bonding was very touching. But I have to say it was not one of my favorite Pixar movies... and I couldn't help feeling that there was a little bit of "Brother Bear" in there!
