Potter Parties?

Anyone going to a Harry Potter book Party?

Oak Park, IL is blocking off Oak Park Avenue (from Lake St. to North Blvd) on Friday. They are turning the street into Diagon Alley!! The bank is leading tours into its basement vaults, the ice cream parlor (Oberweiss) is Florien Fountescue's shop, and Magic Tree Bookstore is selling the book at Midnight!!

That's what I'm doing this Friday night!

Not going to a party, but I probably would if I had kiddos. I'm going to pick up my book after work on Saturday. I can't wait!

Re: Potter Parties?

Just got back from a Midnight Bash at our local Barnes and Noble. It was a blast! Even saw a kid who was a spitting image of Draco Malfoy!

We bought 4 books...2 of my Dkids saved their own money for a copy, one for DD and one for DH's birthday (it was the 20th).

Because we had so many books, they gave us the box they came in. That's pretty cool. DD has claimed it.

Also, the local news was interested in us buying so many. They interviewed my Dsons. I'll have to watch the news tomorrow to see if they made the cut!

It was so...magical. Plus the books were 40% off. Couldn't go wrong!

Re: Potter Parties?

We went to Salem, 2 1/2 hour drive away - dropped Jennie & Sarah off at my sister's, and Amanda and I did the Barnes and Noble thing!

Great experience to try at least once - funniest thing was we didn't even do any of the activities - Amanda was too excited - we hit the Starbucks cafe, got Frapuccino's, and read to our heart's content, while we watched the lines of people snaking through the store and hordes more waiting to enter the store - loved the costumes and attitudes of people - great fun! They were really efficient at moving people through the line - we hadn't preordered, although we were the 7th people there with yellow tickets (issued that night for non-preorders) and we were out of there by 12:33! There were still huge lines of people waiting to get in!

The book is awesome - Amanda and I are trading off - she's at page 600, and I'm only at pg 483. Can't wait to finish it!
