American Idol concert The AI2 tour officially kicked off last night in St. Paul, and I have to say it was better than I expected! Live band, dancers, fireworks, the whole works. Nine of the top 12 were there, and in the first half of the show, each sang a solo in the order they were voted off -- Charles, Julia, Ricky, Kim C., Carmen, Trenyce, Kim L., Clay, and Ruben (Ruben sang two). The second half of the show was group stuff, duets, medleys, and some of the best solos I've ever heard. Clay and Ruben sang a terrific version of "The Girl Is Mine" -- which sent the audience into fits of hysterical screaming and needs to be on both of their CDs! (My favorite line from the end of that song: "What, Ruben, do you have to win everything?" ) Kimberley Locke sang "Inseparable" and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," which got a standing ovation before she even finished. (Still getting chills, thinking about it. Simply amazing.) Clay sang "This Is the Night" and a new one that I loved, but he did not sing "Bridge Over Troubled Water" -- huge bummer. Ruben sang "Superstar," "Flying Without Wings," and one of his new ones, but not "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do" -- another bummer. I think the top three had a combined 12 solos. The show ended with "Proud To Be an American" -- excellent. All in all, it was a really good show -- get tickets if you can. And then get ear plugs. The screaming ... I can still hear the screaming. Oh, and as much as I love Ruben, I think Clay convinced me last night. He is amazing and has a real presence on stage. He was born to perform. Even better, he seemed to sincerely appreciate the fans, and even came out for his last song wearing a Minnesota Wild jersey. One of my co-workers is a HUGE Clay fan, so I tried to buy her a Clay button -- they were sold out. First night of the tour, and they sold out of Clay buttons! I had to go to three different souvenir stands to find a Clay picture for her. Methinks they need to stock up on Clay stuff!

Re: American Idol concert Sandy, it sounds like a really good show and I'd love to see it but don't know if it's coming to the Southeast or not and I've read that it's a soldout tour although if it was in the area, I could probably find tickets, depending on how much I wanted to spend. Do you happen to know the other tour cities/dates? Thanks,

Re: American Idol concert Debbi -- there's a list here: Idol on Fox website. We had tickets on the main floor -- row 46 -- and they were $35 plus all the fees (about $48 total including fees).
