The ballots for the 2004 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees have been mailed. Nominees on the ballot include: Prince, Jackson Browne, John Mellencamp, George Harrison, Sex Pistols, Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gram Parsons, Patti Smith, The Dells, The "5" Royales, Bob Seger, the Stooges, Traffic and ZZ Top. George Harrison has already been inducted as part of the Beatles but is nominated as a solo artist.

So, who would you vote for?

Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Mellencamp, Jackson Browne, and Bob Seger all get my vote! I think it is a crime that Lynyrd Skynyrd has not been inducted already! Oh well, I might vote for Prince too, just because I remember his music so well from my teenage years. Remember when 1999 seemed like a long way off?

George Harrison should be an easy win. I'd vote for ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The "5" Royales should definitely be inducted, as should The Sex Pistols for shaking up the music scene at a time when rock music had gotten very corporate and bland. I'm sorry, but Jackson Browne puts me to sleep, Zzzzzzz. When do we find out who the winners are for this year?

I think Prince and George Harrison are the two most talented members of that list.

Prince has done so much for the music industry as a whole...I think he would get my final vote.

They are all so good but I think ZZ Top and the Sex Pistols are awesome choices.

It was a news story on Yahoo, Nancy. I found the induction process on the website for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame :

Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Criteria include the influence and significance of the artist’s contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll.

The Foundation’s nominating committee, composed of rock and roll historians, selects nominees each year in the Performer category. Ballots are then sent to an international voting body of about 1,000 rock experts. Those performers who receive the highest number of votes, and more than 50 percent of the vote, are inducted. The Foundation generally inducts five to seven performers each year.

<font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">I would have to say that Skynyrd fits the criteria since they were one of the first bands to use 3 guitars which gave a new sound to rock music.

With all the Johnny Cash trivia floating around since yesterday, I heard that he was the first person to be inducted into both the Rock & Roll and Country Music Hall of Fame. I thought that was interesting.

I don't know, they are usually inducted in the spring, so my guess would be late winter.
