The Terminal

Has anyone heard anything about this movie yet? I know it stars Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta Jones, but I'd like to know more. Thanks!

Re: The Terminal

I saw a preview for it last Sunday when we saw HP3. I usually like Tom Hanks, but this one just didn't appeal to me. He plays a Russian (I think) who is living in an airport in the US, and CZJ falls in love with him. I'm sure someone else can fill in lots more detail for you.

Re: The Terminal

Here's something on it from the Internet Movie Database:

[ QUOTE ]
An immigrant (Hanks) fleeing the war that ravages his tiny Eastern European homeland finds himself stuck in the terminal of one of New York City's airports when the time of his landing coincides precisely with the point at which the war causes his nation of origin to no longer exist, meaning that his passport and paperwork are no longer valid. As a man without a home, he takes up residence in the terminal itself, befriending the staff of the airport, and falling in love with an airline flight attendant.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think it looks really good! And Tom Hanks is always great--plus it's directed by Steven Spielberg! I'm going to see it not long after it comes out!

This one sounds pretty interesting to me. And it's a true story, which I just can't understand how something like this really happened! Oh well, you know what they say, truth is stranger than fiction...

Re: The Terminal

I'd kinda like to see it. It looks like one of those Tom Hanks films where he's done something different that could either be funny or awful, but whenever Hankks takes a risk like that it usually turns out great.

For the record, it's not a "true" story per se, it's very loosley based on the story of an Iranian man who get stuck at Paris' Charles de Gaul airport when a briefcase with all his identity and refugee status paperwork was stolen at Heathrow. The Brits put him on a plane back to deGaul, and the French wouldn't let him in either, nor would any other country, so he got stuck. He has turned down several offers of amnesty in other countries, including France, because he wants to live in England, and has been in deGaul for over 10 years. He is reportedly mentally unstable.

Re: The Terminal

Jamie and I saw it on Saturday and we had two very different opinions about it! I was really expecting it to be good but I didn't think it was. I guess I wasn't in the mood for it or something, but I thought it was really sappy and too long. Jamie, on the other hand, thought it was really good. It did have a few funny parts, but I got kind of tired of feeling sorry for Tom Hanks's character and I lost interest about halfway through. So, thumbs up from Jamie and thumbs down from me!

Maybe that's what I was getting from it when I saw the preview for it at the movies. There was just something about it that made me feel it was going to be a big yawn.
