| How about that Olympic Opening Ceremony? Straight outta mythology or what? What a WELCOMED distraction from the Weather Channel, in our home, anyway. |

| Re: How about that Olympic Opening Ceremony? From what we saw of it, it looked good, but we seemed to get stuck with one camera angle for the early part of the ceremony, which meant we couldn't get a full overview of what was happening in the stadium, so that was very frustrating. ![]() The fireworks were awesome and I felt that the ceremony was just right, not too over the top, but I wasn't at all sure about Bjork and her contribution - I'm sure they could've found someone else, as I'm not sure she added much to the ceremony. |

| Re: How about that Olympic Opening Ceremony? Cheryl, just be glad you didn't have to listen to Katie Couric commentating. My gosh, she is so annoying and she was so condescending to her co-host Bob Costas. Ugh... she does the same thing to Matt Lauer on the Today show. Other than that, I absolutely loved it. I let Kylor stay up and watch with me. I thought it was quite educational for him to see all the different country names. And I thought it was interesting China made Taiwan be called Chinese Taipai for the Olympics. I liked that they went in alphabetical order according to the Greek alphabet, but unlike other years, I had no idea how close we were to the end of the countries! And I'm moving to Morocco! Holy man, all those guys from there were HOT! |

| Re: How about that Olympic Opening Ceremony? I didn't like how Katie Couric and Bob Costas talked all the way through Bjork's performance and made fun of her for wearing that swan outfit to the Oscars a few years ago. Yes, Bjork's different, but maybe some people wanted to hear the song! |

I can't stand Bob Costas and some of the things the two of them were saying were absolutely asinine! At times I felt like I was watching a Thanksgiving day parade instead of a world event. I loved the costumes for the greek mythology piece. That head statue was cool too. Also have to agree on the good-looking men!! |

| How about that Olympic Opening Ceremony? Gotta admit being disappointed at Couric needing to spoil the surprise of the role Bjork's dress played in it all. Tina, the Moroccans?! How about the team from Camaroon?! |

[/ QUOTE ] Don't worry - it happened to us as well, the BBC commentators told us what was going to happen even before Bjork got on stage. |

| Re: How about that Olympic Opening Ceremony? I'm with you guys on the Couric/Costas commentary -- what a couple of jerks! Why the network honchos thought we'd rather listen to them than to the music that was being played with the program is beyond me. And how about cutting to commercials every three to five minutes during the parade of nations -- how annoying was that?Otherwise, I thought the ceremony was really cool. Beat the heck outta the pick-up trucks in the Atlanta opening ceremony. I thought the skirt that turned into a map of the world was cool, too, though Bjork's singing doesn't do much for me. And the woman with the lighted abdomen representing the future was a bit on the strange side, but that's just me. ![]() Dennis and I both said the same thing when they lit the cauldron, "Oh, look -- it's a giant 'doobie'!" (as in, "joint") -- okay, I admit we'd had a couple of drinks by then. But all in all, I thought it was great, and I really liked the Greek history pageant. Just should'a turned the sound down. And how cool were the centaurs?? Awesome bit of costuming, there. |

[/ QUOTE ] Great minds think alike, DD and I were saying the same thing, some people may like her but she is way to wierd for us. And like I said in my other post way to many comercials. Yes the commentators need to shut up. That's why I watch the DNC and will watch the RNC on CSPAN. No one is there to tell you what that person just said. Like you did'nt hear it the first time now you have to hear their version of it. |

| Re: How about that Olympic Opening Ceremony? LOL We can switch to the Canadian station any time we want to to get away from the American renditions of blow by blow accounts of what we did and did not again. As for Canadian stations? I like it very much. We don't get inundated with one sided accounts. Plus we can hear how other countries are doing and are favored. If you can? See if you get a Canadian station. I love the Olympics and will be watching that station tonight when the Gymnastics team is on. I do know that the Bravo station and one other is airing the Olympics as well. So, if NBC isn't fairing? Check out the other cable stations as well. |

| Re: How about that Olympic Opening Ceremony? I just realized this morning that CBC is carrying the Olympics. Luckily it's one of 30 stations I get While NBC doesn't start their coverage until noon, CBC was already broadcasting the Olympics early this morning - and they broadcast some things live. And cover things NBC doesn't find "interesting" - like the cycling and weightlifting, etc. Love it! |
