Re: Hero

I saw it, and it definitely impressed me, quite a bit. A good way to tell if you'd like it is if you are a fan of cinematography and "good-looking" films. The plot of Hero is so thin, it can't really get any simpler, so if you can't live without a deep story and complex characters, this has none of it. Worth a matinee for sure though!

For what it's worth, we had some friends for dinner last night, and, knowing their 15 y.o. son was a movie buff, I asked him if he had seen anything good lately. He raved about Hero, and said the cinematography was fantastic.

Re: Hero

We took our DS to see this this afternoon and had I known it was subtitled throughout, we would have made a different choice. For our 10yo DS, it was too fast for him to read and keep up.

For me personally, yes the cinematography is beautiful and I actually liked the storyline ok, but got tired of watching the same Matrix type moves ad nauseum in fight scene after fight scene. Even DS was scoffing at how fake it was (running on water, spinning four times in the air - these warriors would have taken the Gold in several Olympic sports).

Just my two cents.

Re: Hero

We saw this a couple of weeks ago and I thought that the story was somewhat confusing. Having seen Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon a few years back, I didn't think Hero had the depth and beauty of that movie. I would however give it a ten for cinematography as it was an interestingly made artsy type movie. I liked the way the color of the costumes the characters wore played against the scenery and background to make powerful statements. If the storyline had been as rich, I might have really liked the movie. As a side note, this movie actually came out in 2002 according to the Internet Movie Database ,which I thought was interesting. I suppose as it is sub-titled that it had been out in Asian markets for a long time and just now made its way to the US.
