RIP Jerry Orbach Just read on cnn.com that Jerry Orbach has died. Loved him as Lennie Briscoe on Law & Order! And as the voice of Lumiere, of course! So sad.

RIP Jerry Orbach I just read the Yahoo News Story and it seems they will have more information. I had read that he'd been battling the prostate cancer but Dick Wolf had indicated he was doing ok so it was a jolt to read the headline on my homepage just now.

Re: RIP Jerry Orbach Jerry Orbach dead at 69 Actor best known for 'Law & Order' Wednesday, December 29, 2004 Posted: 10:39 AM EST (1539 GMT) Jerry Orbach NEW YORK (AP) -- "Law & Order" star Jerry Orbach has died of prostate cancer at 69, a representative of the show said Wednesday. Orbach died Tuesday night in Manhattan after several weeks of treatment, Audrey Davis of the public relations agency Lippin Group said. When his illness was diagnosed, he had begun production on NBC's upcoming spinoff "Law & Order: Trial By Jury," after 12 seasons playing Detective Lennie Briscoe in the original series. His return to the new show had been expected early next year. On Broadway, the Bronx-born Orbach starred in hit musicals including "Carnival," "Promises, Promises" (for which he won a Tony Award), "Chicago" and "42nd Street." Among his film appearances were roles in "Dirty Dancing," "Prince of the City" and "Crimes and Misdemeanors." I loved Jerry! Wait till my kids (12 & 14 year olds). They will cry! BTW, there is a L&O SVU marathon on this weekend.

Re: RIP Jerry Orbach I had heard about a month ago that he was battling prostate cancer but they made it sound like they had caught it early. I sat in the 2nd row in New York City on Broadway and saw him in "42nd Street" in the early 80s. He was absolutely wonderful! Incredible voice! He will be missed.

Re: RIP Jerry Orbach I saw that on the noon news as well and was shocked. I hadn't even heard that he had been battling cancer. I think he may have had the longest run on L&O as a detective. And of course I loved him as Baby's daddy.... Nobody puts Baby in the corner...

Re: RIP Jerry Orbach I was surprised to hear this too. I knew he had been ill (that's why he hasn't been on L&O) but that he was scheduled to come back for a few episodes this year. He was a great Broadway actor. He'll be missed for sure.

Re: RIP Jerry Orbach RIP Jerry Orbach. I just found out the news. I was actually flipping through the channels and saw him on Law and Order. I don't watch it, though, but everytime I see him on it I smile since Dirty Dancing is my absolute favorite movie of ALL TIME. Then I put on the WB news and heard he had died. I had no idea he did the voice of Lumiere, they said it in the story and I was surprised. He was a great guy, a fellow New Yorker, and a very talented actor, both on tv, in the movies and on Broadway. He will be missed.
