Passporter Book Club

A lot of us on here like to read, so I thought it would be fun to start a kind of book club. There are two ways this could be done.

1. Pick a book for all of us to read. This type of book club would be done monthly, so everyone has time to get and read the book. Once a week we could all get together on a special thread and discuss different aspects of the book.

2. We could all read our own books, and once a week we can get together in a special thread to discuss where we are in the book we are currently reading. It would be a fun way to reccomend books to others, and get some great ideas on new books to read.

Would anyone be interested? Which route do you think we should go - all agreeing on a book, or reading our own books and discussing them? If you have any other ideas feel free to post them, too! I'd love your feedback, this would really be a fun thing to do!

Re: Passporter Book Club

Great idea Melissa!!! I would love this as I am always on the lookout for new books/authors. I am up for either idea as I can always go look at a library for a particular book or buy it if it from an author I like.

this idea!!! Kudos to you Melissa!!

Re: Passporter Book Club - UPDATE!

everyone! I already posted this in the Sunroom, but I wanted to make sure that everyone got this.

The way it will work is I will list three of four books, and you can all vote on the one in which you would like to read for the coming month. When the final book is chosen it will be posted, and whoever would like to participate that month will have around two weeks to pick up the book. Then, each week we will have a certain chapter to read up to, and at the end of that week we will all meet on a special thread in the Library. Discussion questions will then be posted, and everyone can answer the questions in their own way, tell everyone what they liked or disliked about the book, post their own realizations, and ask their own questions.

Sorry for posting this in two different places, but I know that most people come here to the Sunroom, and the more people involved the more fun this will be. No one is obliged to participate every month. If there is a book chosen that you are not interested in, you can simply opt out of the discussion for the next few weeks, and rejoin us with the next book.

This will definitely be interesting being done online, but it HAS been done before. It will be a fun way to discuss different books, learn about new reads out there, recommend your own favorite titles, and really just get to know each other better.

I'm trying to get everything organized, so if you think you would be interested, can you please PM me with your name and e-mail address? You don't even need to give me your e-mail address if you would like that to remain private. I just think it may be easier to send out group e-mails with information on everyone's personal accounts, rather than through Passporter. It's entirely up to you, though. I also would like to try to get a final count for who would be interested, just to make sure that there are enough people participating.

My year and a half on the boards have taught me that there are a lot of different people on here, with differing backgrounds, tastes, and opinions. It will definitely be interesting, and a lot of fun, to see how everyone feels about different books, and the meaning behind them. So let me know if you would be interested! I appreciate it! Re: Passporter Book Club - UPDATE!

Hmmm...sounds interesting! My co-workers set up a book club and never invited me to join. I feel alittle left out!

One of them said "It is because we didn't want to read Harry Potter." That isn't funny...I just started reading Harry Potter this summer and the book club was started about 3 years ago!!!
