One of my good friends and I went to the Minnesota Twins baseball game yesterday at the Metrodome in Minneapolis. The games was great with pitcher Johann Santana reaching a record high 17 strikeouts for one game. The Twins went on to win the game 1-0 over the Texas Rangers.

During the top of the ninth, left-fielder Rondell White came out and another player took his place. Since we were sitting in the "nose-bleed" section, I could only make out that player's number, but not his name. So I told my friend to dig out her program so that we could see who it was. Turns out it was #12- Jason Tyner who is one of the newer players on the team.

After the game, we had plans to meet another friend at a restaurant in Minneapolis to celebrate that friend's birthday. Dinner wasn't until 6pm, but because the game got done fairly early, my friend and I decided to head to the restaurant early and have a drink in the bar. As we were walking into the restaurant, my friend hits me on the arm to get my attention and points at some guy walking in just ahead of us. I look at her with a question on my face. Then she whispers rather loudly to me "That's Jason Tyner!" From the back I couldn't tell. When we all got inside, he was turned and facing the door, so we could tell for sure that it was him. My friend and I went and sat in the bar, and the Twins' player and his family were seated for dinner. After we got to the bar, my friend told me that she really wanted his autograph. I told her if she really wanted it, she should wait until he was leaving and then ask him so as not to disturb his dinner. I told her that I was sure he wouldn't mind, especially since he is one of the younger players. She was kind of nervous about it, but thought she might do that. In the meantime our other friend and her sister showed up, so we were all sitting by the bar for a before-dinner drink. While we were sitting there, Jason Tyner walked by, and I told my friend now was her chance. She decided to wait a minute until he walked by again. A couple of minutes later, there he was. I poked her and told her to go ask him. She was all flustered so our other friend called out to him, saying "Excuse me?" He turned around and my friend wasn't getting up. So I grabbed the program and pen out of her hand, and walked over to him. I asked him if he would mind signing an autograph for us. He smiled and said "Sure." While he was signing it, I told him that we had been at the game, and we had enjoyed seeing him play at the game. Then I thanked him and he was on his way. My friend was still sitting there with her mouth open. I was glad that my friend's sister got a picture of Jason Tyner signing the program for me. That definitely made for a fun end to a fun day!
