Appalachian State vs. Michigan HAHA

okay, college football is Lame (oh yes, capital L) but i was watching ESPN last night with my hubby and lo-and behold.....App State beat Michigan...even i know what that means....

and then the cockiness of the player afterwards *your just dont expect to lose to a team like that* that was just uncalled for.....thats the only thing i dont like about sports, bad sportsmanship....

I have to say, I was pretty darn tickled with that game. My sister, step-sister and one of my BFFs are all Appalachian State alums. Go Mountaineers!

Well, personally I was devastated. They are my school and my team.....and it isn't really cocky, its' true. You don't expect to lose a game like that. No one does....the expectations are much higher. Everyone expected them to win and they choked.....it is what it is.

The difference between you and me , I felt awful for OSU when they got their butts kicked in the Nationl Championship. Wishing for your team to do well and others to do awful are two different things. I always want to beat MSU and OSU but would never be happy they got humiliated.

I have to agree with that. It's not being cocky. Honestly, a Div. I-A team SHOULDN'T lose to a Div. I-AA team, but occasionally it happens, I guess. We were at a party yesterday and we were ALL shocked when we saw that Michigan lost!

All I can say is I won't be rooting for Michigan next week when they play my Oregon Ducks.

like i said...bad sportsmanship.....the way he said it was like he was just plain better than them and it was *impossible* and from what i read and heard, they were winning through the whole game

it was extremely cocky, and in bad taste, even my father and husband agreed with that, and they are hardcore football fans (my husband lives eats and breathes football 365 days a year, and if you dont think its possible, trust me, you dont know him)

you can be confident, but still be respectful....and just because you expect to win (or lose) doesnt (or i guess i should say shouldnt, because many many athletes behave in a way that appalls me) give you the right to detract from someone else's victory by belittling them....

they had to do extremely well their entire previous season to even be playing Michigan State, and they won.....it is the highlight of their school's playing career to date by miles and miles, but MSU is too good (or its not *cool* or whatever, i dont follow college, i know in pro football you cant say another team os genuinely good, or at least they just dont have respect for each other like that) to say, hey, they played a good game, and next time, we'll play better.....no, they have to say that they *cant believe that could lose the a team like that*....its tacky and rude....i know if it was my child i would be smacking them in the back of the head for belittling someone else's achievement, but sportsman are allowed to be vile...sorry this rant just keeps going, but it really bugs me that athletes have no sense of respect for each other or *the spirit* of the game anymore, its all competition, all the time....its pathetic

**edited**

and for the record: he said a team like that, not a game...thats what is so distasteful...

I was so happy for App State as I am an alum from a NC school and well all us smaller guy have to stick together. Boone is a lovely place with lovely people, your right this is THE highlight for them, THE big one that will be talked about for quite some time.

Way to go ASU!

well, we can all agree to disagree......just to clarify it wasn't Michigan State. It was Michigan....University of Michigan. As much as I wish that wasn't true. And they weren't winning the whole game......but just details. I understand it doesn't change how you feel.

Oh, come on. I didn't "wish for others to do awful". And I didn't say anything about them being "humiliated". Its just good old fashioned rivalry. I don't even really care about football and I didn't watch the game. Its just all in fun. Don't take it so seriously.

Heck, I'm a Chicago Cubs fan. You can't get more humiliated than that!!!

Maggie

Wow, I'm surprised.
I really could care less about College football. It's all just kids chasing after a ball, after all.
I'm surprised that people here are taking it so seriously and getting up in arms about someone else's opinion. Come on, people - it's a game.
Good Sportsmanship is all that really counts. I teach that to my kids - heck, when the team that DD's volleyball team is playing makes a good play- I cheer and applaud them - they've done a good job. And more importantly, I can see Kathryn, on the bench - applauding and say "good job" or "Great play".
Let's all just agree - it's a surprise for such a small school to beat a larger school. But not impossible - watch the movie "Hoosiers" if need to be reminded of that.

your right, when i told my hubby about my post, he corrected me, but i was in the middle of something and didnt want to edit it

and i always agree to disagree....i have a higher set of standards i hold humanity to than even my own husband does...its a flaw i guess....

and i think they were according to every single thing i have seen/heard and read.....and everyone i have talked to.....i dont remember all od the numbers, i know they were at 28 to something, then i think Michigan either scored, or got a field goal, then App State got a touch down and prevented a field goal by Michigan to win the game......

except they werent good sports......90% of athletes in the college level and up arent anymore....that was the point of my rant....they dont respect other teams or the game itself anymore...they think they are better than everyone all the time, and constantly belittle each other for the sake of competition...
