It's race day!

DH's family is originally from southern Indiana, so the Indy 500 was sacred TV viewing when he grew up. As kids, he and his parents used to "pick cars" before watching the race. His parents had prizes for the winners, first one out, etc. Even now, his parents do that with the grandkids. So later this morning, we'll be on the phone to OH making DD's driver picks. She wants "the girl drivers." (How great that she just assumes that's an option!)
Anyone else have Indy 500 race day traditions?

No traditions for us, but it was a great race.

I miss being back in Indiana for the race. I lived in Indy from 1979-2006 (minus a few years while in the Navy) and we always went over to my mom's house for race day. She lives just up Georgetown road about 3 miles from the track, and is directly under the flight path of the aircraft that make the flyby every year. We're close enough that you can, if you listen closely, can hear the race cars. Even been able to see the balloons released from the track there. But as for the race itself, we'd always grill out in the back yard and listen to the race on Q95.
