Does anyone around here do pilates? I just started doing a video at home on Netflix that lets you pick your level (beginner-intermediate-advanced) and the moves are easy to follow. How long before you start to see results in terms of toning/muscle definition?
I like it, it's pretty low impact and I can finish the video without feeling like I am going to die. Of course, my cat never takes a greater interest in me than when I am laying on the floor exercising, lol
I have the Windsor Pilates DVDs. I did them and just them for a while, but now they are thrown in with my other cardio/strength dvds that I mix up every day. I'm not sure how to answer the question about how long it took to see results. I was also dieting heavily at the time, so I'm not sure what was the weight coming off and what was the pilates. I did get to my smallest when I was doing just the pilates, but I lost a lot of muscle because I wasn't doing strength or aerobics. I think they work best when combined w/ other workouts, but that's just what works best for me. Good luck with your workouts!
I took an actual pilates class 2 days a week for about 5 years....and loved it. My flexabilty improved a great deal as well as strength since our class also incorporated some yoga moves in it. I also struggled with lower back pain and finally had to quit to be able to train fully for a half-marathon. I still miss it but my back has gotten better since I stopped the class....which makes no sense! I feel like it takes a while to really start seeing any benefits from it but you will.
