Hi there sports fans and visitors to PassPorter's Locker Room!
It's finally time for the 2012 London Olympics!
With Olympic television coverage being kind of "all over the place" as far as event airing times and such, I just wanted to ask that, if you post about a medal winner, that you do so very carefully so as not to "spoil" it for any folks that haven't gotten to watch or catch up on certain events yet!
When you make a post, please don't put winners' names in the thread title! Instead, if you form it sort of like this: 100m Hurdles winner! (spoiler) it will kind of give the reader who comes across the thread the option to read the thread or know to avoid it if they still haven't seen that event yet.
If you make the thread title and forget to add "spoiler" or something to that effect, never fear! We'll add it for you if we see the spoiler!
Thanks for the reminder Sarah. Personally, I was shocked to learn that you guys aren't getting live coverage - why they didn't show the opening ceremony live and then repeat it later over there, I do not know... I take that back - I do know, it was done for ratings, but it's so unfair that you can't enjoy it at the same time as we do.
What we've been doing all day is watching what NBC here is televising (and flipping channels as there are 5 or 6 NBC owned channels with certain events on each) and then watching the BBC feed online at the same time. We've already seen the 400m IM swimming final on BBC (and it was shown live on NBC's website), though it wasn't/isn't televised until this late afternoon!

We also watched the swimming finals online at NBC.com. I think it's kind of ridiculous that they are tape delaying so much on TV - especially on a WEEKEND! I guess I could see them doing it during the week since most people would be at work and unable to watch, but on a Saturday?

That's just crazy. I feel so bad for you guys - whatever time zone the Olympics is in, it's always on live over here, even if you have to get up in the middle of the night to see the live action - and trust me, been there, done that one before!
NBC claimed that there were "technical problems" due to the "complicated ceremonies", which translates to "Americans are too stupid to understand this so let us edit it for you".
They have provided "streaming video" but it crashes when overloaded, such as in the Men's 400M IM. So much for that. Even the channel showing the soccer matches has problems and a lot of dead air.
Great play in Women's Soccer yesterday though by the US, France and GB! But my big question is what is going on in the gymnastic venue? Not only is the color dreadful-looks like Hello Kitty's litter box- but the light colored mats are causing problems with spotting on dismounts and the floor exercise surface is only padded with foam, not springs and there is injury after injury occurring. Seems like that should have been standardized before the start.
The Opening Ceremonies were amazing- I can't remember when I've enjoyed them more! Hope Her Majesty is feeling better because I was worked about her- not even a tiny smile on Friday night and her voice sounded weaker than in the past weeks. She looked stronger yesterday in the pics we've seen of her visiting the Olympic Village, but she's older and needs to take care.

I'm sorry you had trouble with that race! We watched it online w/ no problem.
I may be losing it - but aren't the opening ceremonies ALWAYS tape delayed? I swear I remember watching the Beijing ones at my friend's house in the evening, and with that time difference there's no way it would have been on then here. It does annoy me though when they tape delay the actual competitions. It's really difficult to be alive and not hear about how certain competitions went before they show it at night.
I am psyched for the US Men's Gymnastics team. They were super good in qualifying yesterday, coming in 1st place overall! I am also really excited about the way our US women's soccer team is playing. It will be really interesting if it ends up with them and Japan in the gold medal game.
I think London is 6 hrs. ahead of EST so everything is tape delayed that is shown at night in primetime. I like watching the live games during the day. If you look at the internet you usually knows who wins what is shown at night in the US.

Which is why I'm trying really really hard to avoid my msn homepage after about noon.

That's a good plan, since they post results in their headlines. Might want to switch your homepage to yahoo during the Olympics...they don't post results unless you click on the article.
CHEZP: Would you mind posting here what events you're attending? We can look for you.
Sure! Already been to the men's gymnastics qualification on Saturday morning and we were at Centre Court for the tennis on Sunday. We have the morning sessions of the athletics on Friday, Monday and Tuesday. I am keeping a close eye on the website for any last minute tickets for later on on those days as well. I know that, even though we have the higher priced tickets for the athletics, we are fairly high up in the stadium.
Congratulations to Britain's Andy Murray on his gold medal today. Anyone who watched him after his loss in the Wimbledon final a few weeks ago should be excited for him and his country today. My heart just went out to him that day, but today I can just feel his excitement and his relief!

I was so, so happy for him - and so glad that this time he was crying tears of joy!
