What's the deal with the new download your photos feature at Photopass?
We just got home yesterday and I've already been to Photopass.com and it keeps telling me that my photos are available and ready to download and if I don't do it by the 30th, I'll lose them. Does anyone know what the deal with this is and what the advantage to doing it would be? I've already pre-ordered my CD and I'll get all the photos that way. Thanks for any info.
I would think that it might make it easier to have them on your computer if you wanted to order prints from an online source such as Walgreens or something. I have two CD and have never printed a picture.
That is just a guess - haven't had that option yet.
I think it may be asking you to claim them. I know when I pre order, when I get home, I put all my card numbers in, add borders, etc. Then I put the cd into the shopping cart and enter my pre order code.

If I am reading this correctly you have not finished this purchase yet.
You preordered the CD. They sent you a code.
At the parks you had pictures taken, so you should have one or more cards with codes on them.
You have to go to the photo site. Create a new/or log into your existing account there.
Claim your photos, by inputting all of the codes from all of your cards.
Make any extra photos you want. (borders, cropped etc - LOTS of FUN).
Then order your CD. When you order a CD there will be a spot to put in the code from your prepaid CD which will take the cost down to $0 (unless you order something else too).
Apologies if I missed the point and you have already done all of this.
Mary
Basically there is no mechanism to automatically match your photopass cards with your photopass pre-order. You have to go into the system and link them together.

forgot to add -- and yes that 30 day deadline to claim and order the pictures is real. Sometimes if they are not as busy they might hang around a little longer, but I would not count on it. -- Once you have claimed them you can sometimes get an extension on the ordering part with an e-mail to them but no guarantees.

Looks like Download is an option in addition to the CD:
Disney's PhotoDownload: Just like it says, you can download your photo. Each Disney's PhotoDownload includes a high-resolution .jpeg file of the selected image, as well as a copyright release document. Your image will also contain any edits you made including crops or the addition of Disney artwork. When you select "Disney's PhotoDownload" from the drop-down box in the size desired, a pop-up will explain the image formats and how the images will crop. Regardless of the crop size you choose from the drop-down, your PhotoDownload(s) will be sent in high-resolution (300 dpi) and will be good for prints up to 16" x 20". Each download is a .zip file containing a .jpeg file as well as the copyright release for your records. If you order multiple downloads, all of the images and releases will be in a single .zip file. The .zip file is named for the order number. PhotoDownloads will be available in the download center (which can be accessed from the "My Account" tab) for 10 days from the date of purchase. You can download each file up to 10 times within the 10 days. After the 10th download or the 10th day (whichever comes first), your downloads will no longer be available unless you buy them again. If images expire from your account, you will still be able to access and download purchased PhotoDownloads from the download center within these guidelines.
Okay, just for the heck of it, I went to the my account section where it had the download option. Apparantely one of the cards I put in had a bunch of Disney stock photos (I'm thinking maybe Lenny's b-day photopass card?) and those were the ones that were part of the download - not the photopass ones taken of us. So now I have a few Disney stock photos of the MSEP. Cool.
I just downloaded too and found stock photos of the Main St Electrical Parade. I noticed that they were on the CD as well. Freebies are always a good thing!!!
You have 30 days to claim any photopass pictures, I believe they tell you this in the park as well if you were looking at them there. So if you have the CD you need to get your pics, edit them and order with in the 30days. It think that is how it works.
