Okay not sure if I've put this in the right place so if it needs to be moved sorry for the trouble.
So on our recent trip I was super mommy and made a really nice autograph for DD (and copied it for MIL). It got so many compliments from people in line, photopass photographers, character wranglers, the characters, and people who saw it on the bus, that I thought of making some to sell.
I use a scrapbooking machine and its cartridges to cut out the figures of the characters (for those who scrapbook yes a Cricut). I checked on etsy.com and saw some people selling a few of the cutouts and a book with one or two of the cut outs, but nothing like the one I made.
I know Disney is very protective of its stuff and wanted to see if anyone knew of it was okay that I do this before I go to the effort of making some more. They are a lot of work and I hate to waste my time, not to mention get in trouble with Disney itself.

im not sure at all but if people can make disney clothes with charecters what is wrong with what you are about to do ??
hope someone could shed some more light on this for you .
Disney frowns on anyone making money off of their stuff. For personal use it would be fine but if you are making them to sell then get legal advice.

Mom calls to check on me and reminded me to pay the gardener. I love her so much.
Disneyland was fun with flag retreat and pickles. I have a home here, thank you. GAC is NOT a "front of the line pass".
She is gone but keeping signature. I move to FL and did laundry on 4/19.
I've seen lots of homemade Disney stuff on etsy.com. I can't imagine every single person on there got written permission from Disney to use images and the like. *shrug* I would think it wouldn't be a problem, personally, as long as you weren't opening a store called "My Disney Store" or something to that effect.
You could always contact a seller on etsy and ask them. Just go to the site and search "Disney" and you'll see what I mean. TONS of homemade Disney stuff.

The difference Jeff is people who make the clothing normally do it for personal use. The OP wants to make something and sell it.
I persoanlly wouldn't do it - especially if your cartridges have the copyright logo on it (I don't do scrapbooking and have never looked at the stuff that goes with it so don't know).

Technically, no you can't. It is copyright infringement plain and simple.
The people you see on Etsy either actually got permission (which I doubt) OR they are just gambling that Disney will do no enforcement (I'm pretty sure that is almost always the case). Disney does not appear to be doing current enforcement for a lot of those homemade products but you never know when they will decide to.
If you are selling something with Disney characters or other Disney copyrighted or trademarked material without permission then you could have an issue if caught. Disney is very protective of what is theirs.
I guess it's like so many other things in life -- just because "everyone else" is doing it doesn't make it right.
Only you can decide what you want to do.
Thanks, everyone's answers are pretty much along my lines of thinking. I'll do a bit more research on the Disney site and I like the idea of contacting someone who is already doing it on etsy. It will be interesting to see if I can find anything but looks like it'll be a no go.

I used to be on some scrapbooking boards and the issue of "Angel Policies" came up alot (i.e., whether or not you can sell things made with craft supplies). Here's the one for Provo Craft, the maker of Cricut. It specifically references Disney in there.

Wow, this is exactly what I was looking for....now to interpret it. I definitely won't be making more than 10,000 but need to read everything a little better when I'm not as tired.
So what was the consensus of on the scrapbook boards?

Ah, found the answer...big NO on that one. Oh, well I'll just wait until our next trip to make more for my kids. But it looks like I can make some to sell if they don't use the licensed character images, so maybe the idea isn't dead. So I can't use Ariel but I could use the mermaid from Once Upon A Princess cartridge.

It is really nice that you can make something magical , and then there can be a road block for trying to share the magic with other people and trying to make a buck . but i really understand when things are copy writed for reasons . good luck and if you can share a picture of them i would just love to see it please .

It varied from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some have very liberal policies, some allow use for items to be sold at craft fairs but not online, some didn't allow it at all. Good luck!
