Talking New photo pass/UPDATED with NEW INFO 4/27

Take a look at the article on touring plans blog about $199 photo pass that includes character meal photos and ride photos and 400 stock photos... wondering how to upgrade my pre purchase offer.......

UPDATE:
Just got off the phone with photo pass....when you ask to upgrade your package or to order PhotoPass Plus - if you are going to be there more than 14 days ask to increase the days. They will contact a manager and then make it happen. There has been a DVC family approved for 20 days in the recent past. They have the ability to extend it but are advertising and doing 14 days as a rule of thumb. They will make exceptions, esp DVC as they know we sometimes stay longer.

Also MAJOR TIP HERE:
The photo pass is a one per family lanyard so say I go get a dole whip and DH and DS go ride splash mountain. ..
IF you know the number of the photo AND the attraction AND you go to photo pass people in that park on THAT day - the photo can be added to the package no charge. Don't wait till next day the photo will be deleted from their system.

ANOTHER TIP HERE:
If you arrive and say have a character meal before you can purchase your photo plus - buy the $31.95 package and KEEP RECEIPT....take it to them and they will credit that purchase toward the total PLUS price.

Im so excited....and I think I like it.....:the wave:

GASP!! What am I doing talking to everybody? I HAVE 14 days left AHHHHHHH...I gotta do progress reports and pack and clean the house and pick up my contacts and and and ......

I found the Touring Plans blog article and I'm in two minds over this one. I know the ride photos and the character meal photos are silly money and generally that's why we don't purchase either. I accept you could get this package and just get a couple of each and probably have better value for money through this deal, but it's still a lot more money - another $70 on top of the new pre-pay price (if I'm remembering that right) and $100 for those of us who pre-paid before prices went up. That still feels like a lot, considering we don't usually buy any of either... as I say, very much in two minds about this...

I can see where this might appeal to families that may be likely to purchase some of these photos. It would cap the cost and allow you to say yes to something you might not take at the per option cost.
We look and laugh at our ride photos, but have rarely purchased them. They would be neat to have if they were added to your cd and just printed normal size for a photo album.

We did purchase both our Splash Mountain and Dinosaur ride photos on our last trip (the 8 X 10 for $20 with tax). Because we did purchase them, they were added to our Photopass account. We were given a special Photopass card for the Splash Mountain photo and at Dinosaur, they took my photopass card and just added the photo to the account. So, for $40, more, we got both added. I had already pre-purchased the photopass CD.

So, for a longer stay, and more rides with photos, it may be beneficial to go ahead and upgrade the Photopass option.

I love pictures and in 08 and 09 if we had a character meal or a ride photo that was good, no eyes closed....etc, I bought them. Character meal photos are $30 each. Plus many times they didn't add them to your account then... so I look at those character meals alone and add it up not counting CRT and its $150!

In 2010, we didn't have the budget for any character meal pics or ride pics and it hurt. Ive already budgeted $120 for it so for me it would save... if Im getting all or most of available pics anyway.

Disney is the one that will save....BC Im assuming this means they won't give you the 8x10 of characters, 8x10 of family and 2 4x6 of family.....saves them ALOT unless you still get the prints with this deal and I don't think you do....

I guess I just have to call them maybe to upgrade?

That just crosses the line for me, as far as how much I'm willing to pay for photos. We always buy the pre-purchase CD, and sometimes I will purchase the Chef Mickey package... but we generally don't pay the crazy prices for those ride photos.

I buy the dinner photos if its a good photo I put them in double matted frames with the photo of the characters next to it. I love how these look. We dont have many family photos done, so these are it for us. I never buy the ride ones though

Speaking of the photo pass CD, can anyone tell me this? Do all of your photo pass photos come on the CD? And then, do you get to print them once you get home, thus avoiding the hassle of buying photos and having to protect them on the trip?

I've never bought the CD, but I'm thinking of doing it this time. I know I've waited until the pre-pay price went up. Still, it's just me and DS on this trip and without photo pass, it's just usually me taking pictures of him. It would be nice to have some real ones together.

Yes, all the photo pass pics come on the CD. I prepay for the CD and then come home, do all my borders, and order the CD. Then I have them printed through Costco and do my photobooks that way - so much cheaper than paying the Disney prices for the individual photos.

That being said, this new option for the Photopass - how does that work if I've already prepaid for the CD? Do I need to pay extra now?

Yes. Per their posting on Facebook, if you pre-ordered the CD for $99, you can pay the difference ($100) and get the PhotoPass+. In my case, I paid for the CD and Book at $149.95. If I pay the $50 difference to get PhotoPass+, I would only get the CD - not the book.

You can only get the PhotoPass+ on property. You can't even order it online before you go.

On this weeks passporter podcast Sara had just called Photopass concerned that she had already prepaid and was told to go to any camera center upon arrival at the parks and she can pay to upgrade. I already had $120 budgeted for character photos and had forgot about ride photos so it definitely will save me money. Pictures are my favorite souvenirs so for some people I understand this is too much, fortunately on this trip we can afford it and we will still save.

We will definitely be doing this on our next trip. I had already been thinking about purchasing the stock photo CD, which I believe either $30 or $40. I have never bought the ride photos, but would love to have them. Since we already purchase the CD everytime we go, I would absolutely pay the difference for the all the extras that I would get out of it!

I kinda feel like my pre-purchase deal is no longer a deal if I have to pay an extra $100 to upgrade to the PP+. I'm gonna forgo the ride pics this time and see how that works out. I'm concerned that the rides who do the pics are the rides my kids will chicken out on and we're only doing one character meal this time.

OK we are DVC but because we drive from OK and can't afford to come much - our trips are always around 15 to 16 days... this year even a couple days extra to give us a shot at 3 SWW.... the way my dining currently falls --- it won't all qualify because the trip is too long?
REALLY DISNEY...YOU REALLY WANT TO PENALIZE US FOR STAYING LONGER....REALLY?

Needless to say I emailed them back as I thought that whole dining print section was hard to follow... and I asked if the 14 day thing affected the Whole CD and Pics or just the dining...Ill let you know.

Any of you can make sense of this feel free to interpret - I have a feeling I may go ahead and do it somehow but Im saving my preorder part for December trip as it is only a few days and there is no way I would spend $200 for a few days....at least with our circumstances.... and a Dec trip that will be more about what is different at Christmas than rides or character meals.

The cryptic response I received:

Thank you for your recent visit to DisneyPhotoPass.com.

We would like to thank you for your request for assistance. Once you
have arrived to Disney, please check at any of the view locations and
ask the Cast Member to check if there's any changes on the 14 day after
the purchase date, as Disney's PhotoPass + was just released and
policies may adjust over the time period.

If you have any additional questions, please let us know. We will be
happy to assist you.
