I've noticed when calling Disney, especially when initially booking a trip, the CM's names have always been odd. Names like Beauregard or Pebbles. I just wondered as many times as I've called that I've only once gotten a plain name, like Mary. I'm not dissing their names, but I wondered if it was their real name or if anyone else has noticed this. When I called to book our trip today I had it on speaker phone and my husband doubled over with laughter because he knew the name wasn't going to be just a plain name, and sure enough it wasn't. I guess it got me wondering a bit because the CM also hesitated a bit before saying it. Like "Hi, my name is.... Pebbles". Am I crazy for noticing this?
No, you aren't. I have even spoken with "Thor" before. Not kidding, Thor. The names are assigned for the call center so when you call you can say "I talked to Thor" and they know exactly who you're talking about. This keeps the cast members from having to give out their last names, etc to distinguish between the 30 "Bob's" who could be in the call center(s).
They will deny the assigned name and act like it's their own but they are assigned.
Yes, I have a friend who is a CM for one of the Disney call centers, and she goes by a very different name when she's at work! She selected her name during training when she started.
I've noticed this, too. I assumed they were assigned.
(Also, I know someone named Thor, so Pixie Michele's comment made me laugh. Thor does sound like a cartoony/fictional name--although my name is Ginger, so who am I to point fingers? )
I wondered the same thing (name assigned) when I talked to Pebbles. My first thought was Pebbles isn't part of Disney, its Hanna-Barbera.
I thought the same thing, lol! Well I'm glad to hear it's not my imagination. It makes sense why they would use them. Beyonce, that's funny. Pebbles was wonderful by the way. The only time I got one that I didn't care for, her name was Mary, and it was soon after that, that my debit card info was stolen. I'm sure it was probably coincidental, but hmmmm. Thanks for all the good info.
A Cast Member once told us on the phone that their names were assigned. It does make sense, so that if you want to compliment or complaint about anyone, they instantly know who you're talking about, but it must be a bit weird for them to use an assumed name.
I also noticed that. My last call I got "Destiny" I thought that was appropriate! My salon also does this so when you call to make an appointment you only have to remember one name and everyone has a different name so as not to be confusing.
