| Re: Vow renewal, in WDW, any tips/ Ideas/Stories Are you planning to do this through Disney Weddings, or are you hoping to find your way around the "high-priced spread?" Since Disney does such a nice business in weddings and vow renewals, you can run into difficulties if you try to engage an officiant on your own and gather in your own little corner of the World. Officiants know this, and many will simply refuse your request. They'd rather be on Disney's "official" list than be blacklisted. The woman who officiated at our Disney wedding claims to have been the first to do weddings at WDW, back before Disney offered the service. She said in the early days, folks simply worked things out on their own and Disney looked the other way. Once someone at Disney figured there was money to be made... Read about our wedding. |

| Re: Vow renewal, in WDW, any tips/ Ideas/Stories We renewed our vows a few years back on our 25 anniversary at WDW. We also did not want to pay the Disney prices so we took it on our own to plan around the official Disney weddings. Our story goes like this: Before we left on our trip, we made an arrangements with each other to write our own vows with a slight twist, we each had to write the vows as if we were the other person (this was fun). We also went to the party store and bought a few wedding type decorations to pack with us. On the evening of our anniversary (we were staying at WL) we got all the group together at the trout pass bar (between the pool and the boat renal dock) and while we were all having a drink and waiting for everyone to show-up, our son and daughter went and rented a large pontoon boat and decorated it with the thinks we had brought. After everyone had arrived, all 8 of us got on the boat and drove around bay lake and then to seven seas lagoon where we stopped right in front of the magic kingdom. After some appropriate music from a portable CD player, we said our vows everyone clapped (even some people from the dock at MK) and we returned to the boat dock at WL and went to dinner at Artist Point. Even though this was an un-officiated ceremony, it was a lot of fun and we were able to do the whole thing for under $200 + dinner. |
