| Pick a pearl settings Are there some unusual settings available at the Epcot and DTD locations? I have somehow never noticed this before on my trips and thought I might check it out as I love pearl jewelry. However, I do home pick a pearl parties, so I already have quite a few pieces. Also, can you bring your own pearl to have mounted in their settings?

| I have heard that they will not mount a pearl you didn't get from them (that goes for the other spots at Disney, too - i.e. the spot at DTD won't mount a ring from the Epcot shop [they are different companies]). The selection at Epcot isn't all that unique, IMO, but they are nice. I don't know which settings you've seen, so can't say if you've seen them or not. I posted a photo of one of the settings I got on my last trip elsewhere on these boards, so do a search for that. I hear that the spots at DTD and Boardwalk (I think it was) have more unique settings, such as dolphin keychains or whatnot.

| This isn't really about the settings, but one thing I had to add about the different locations of getting the pearls. We had always gotten the pearls from DTD. I love the whole "ceremony" that they do for you. Last year, my son wanted to get one for his girlfriend for Christmas. I thought each location would do the same thing. I took the video camera, intending to record this process so he could show the movie to her after he gave her the pearl. We had gone into Japan this time to do it. They did NOTHING! I was so bummed. From now on, it's DTD or nothing!

| I'm not sure what the DTD ceremony is, but at Japan they ask you to choose the oyster, they get it out, they open it while explaining and making exaggerated comments, if it is over a certain size or is a special color they bang the gong, they put it in the salt bowl for you to see it, and then they bag it for you. Then you can choose a setting, if you wish, and give it back to them to set. What do they do at DTD?

| After you pick the oyster and they open it, everyone has to YELL "happy birthday". Then they ring the bell several times. You then are handed the pearl and while you hold it tight in your hands, you make a wish. It is more of a production....if you get the biggest pearl (if you go with several people....there was 3 of us doing it at one time), they make a big fuss over that person. They also explain how they make the pearls and are nice enough (!!) to show you how they get the pearl out (I could do without that part :-) ) It is just so much more interactive.

| I don't know if it is still this way, but Sea World use to do something similar. You would pay for the pearl at one station, and then take your ticket to a very deep pool with female divers in it. The women would dive down to the bottom and retrive your oyrstars(where is my spell check) for you. You would then take them to another area to have them opened, and the pearls cleaned and presented. My dd actually got two in one, and a pink one in the other. She had them made into ear rings back home. The whole thing was quiet a show. That was back in 2000. |

| I haven't done this before, but I think people have said that the pearl is around $15 and the settings vary according to the style and metal you choose.

| I have several loose pearls (and a couple of pieces of jewelry ) from previous vacations. My DH has labeled each loose pearl and plans to eventually have them strung into a 'necklace of memories'. It is a life long project that I hope to show off when I am a grandma. |

| The "ceremony" at DTD sounds cool but I really wanted to do this on dd's 13th birthday and on that day we will be in Epcot so I was going to do it in Japan. I don't know if I can get a trip to DTD into my schedule that day. I will have to consult my paperwork I have set up with the schedule and see if it's possible. |
