Our last Disney Store is closing! I was feeling deprived that one of our Disney Stores closed and now I find that the only other one in town is closing too. Gosh, the company must be in bad way because both of those stores were always busy and Columbus is a big market, larger than Cincinnati or Cleveland by the last census. AND, I checked the park times again for our trip in late June and they are now closing an hour earlier. In high season? It must be to save money.

Re: Our last Disney Store is closing! I stopped at the one in Colonie Center on a weekday about a month ago. There was no one in the place. Of course I did not find anything I wanted there, so I was out the door too! ------------------ Don DVC/Villas at the Wilderness Lodge Upcoming: BWV 8/01, VWL 11/01 & 1/02 *No frogs were riveted during the construction of this post.

Re: Our last Disney Store is closing! Well, as it turns out, they are NOT closing, the person I got the info from was confusing it with the other store in town that did close. It seems a shame to me when the Warner stores seem to be doing so well, what with Powerpuff girls and Harry Potter. I'm just glad that we will still have the one store!

Re: Our last Disney Store is closing! Went to the one in Tri Cities, Washington, it was almost deserted, no jewelry, no watches, no statues, just kid stuff...book and CD department has been reduced to one small set of shelves...I ended up giving my money to Old Navy instead! ------------------

Re: Our last Disney Store is closing! I think they (TDS) are just experiencing a bit of a slump -- not knowing which direction they want to take their stores in. Almost all retail stores experience this kind of change at some point or other. Just keep positive. We just have to roll with the changes, and know that everything will end up okay in the end. With the economy changing, many retailers have been forced to close stores that are not as profitable. Warner Bros., Paul Harris, Natural Wonders, Store of Knowledge, & Northern Reflections have been shutting down many stores recently & some have closed ALL of their stores for good. As a retail manager, it is a bit frightening -- but the consumers are dictating the trends here. Sooooo, tell everyone to go out & shop! All Ears

Re: Our last Disney Store is closing! I too, have had no success shoppin TDS. They don't carry most of the sizes my family needs. And, is it just me or is the quality of the merchandise appear to be declining. But, I still try to find something every time I go in. We now have all the "compressed" washcloths! As a long time stock holder, I can say that this kind of slump is not new and they will eventually return to what works. We can all help by letting the CMs know, nicely, what we want to see happen. One of the stores in Indianapolis told me that they lost 90% of their business with the new changes.

Re: Our last Disney Store is closing! I was disappointed when they discontinued carrying adult clothing (can always use more Mickey boxers). I hear that adult stuff is making a come back. I hope so.

Re: Our last Disney Store is closing! Don't they have any idea of what their buying market wants by now? Our local Warner Brothers stores are always crammed with people shopping. As a long-time Disney stockholder as well, I hope that they can come up with some good ideas!

| Re: Our last Disney Store is closing! I, too, am stumpted by the lack of adult clothing. I now rarely find anything that I want to purchase, wheras before, the times were few that I didn't leave the store with something. Oh well, more money to put towards the WDW trip! | Re: Our last Disney Store is closing! I found a mention of the stores in an article and it said that what was happening to them was outlined in the stockholders report. So I pulled mine and sure enough it says that they are reducing their stores down to just the best performers and will limit the mechandise to a smaller selection with the emphasis on special promotions. They plan to add computer kiosks so that people can order from the online store. It just isn't the same! |
