I think I'll be there. Right now I'm training for the 15K race during Minnie marathon weekend and the 1/2 marathon in 2009. So this will be a nice event to do before the 1/2 marathon. I'm waiting to see what airfare is going to be but I do have a room booked at AKL using my DVC points if I decide to go.

For right now we are booked at POP ourselves. We had decent airfare out of NC i think 175 roundtrip. Share any tips you have for training. I'd love to hear what everyone is doing to get going. Good luck with your training!

I guess my training advice would be to get a good pair of running shoes. And keep in mind that Sept. will be hot in Florida so you may want to invest in the right kind of shorts and top. Stay away from cotton, if you can. Dick's Sporting Goods has great shirt and shorts what "wick away" sweat.
Right now I've been jogging on the treadmill and then tae boing every 3rd day or so to cross train. I also have a Bender Ball to strengthen my core.

One good thing is that these events give you a great reason to get into shape and maybe stay in shape. I've already gone down one jean size which thrills me.

Good Luck everyone!

Is the scavenger hunt part of the 3 miles inside the park, then the obstacle course is outside the park and still part of the 3 miles?
Also, anyone participate in the tower of terror run?

there is a full 3 miles in the park..... then an obstacle course in the parking lot where the run began...... then back into the park for the scavenger hunt. Whooow...I am tired just thinking about it. I hope to have 5 miles down comfortably by September, just to be ready for everything. Then don't forget the party afterwards!!!

Okay so I can see its time for a post to get every one talking about whats going on with them in training. I am still training both at the gym and at home. I went to the gym four days last week. I went yesterday as well. I also borrowed this book about running and have been getting some great tips for building an endurance from coworkers.
I am starting with their techniques this week. But one thing to remember even at a fast walking pace i think a 16 mile is WAYYYYY doable.
So good luck crissy!!! I am right there with ya in motivation. I thought about purchasing a pretty journal to track myself and write how i'm doing. And when this is over I will know that I CAN do something like this again.

So an update is needed!!! I have some information to share with those thinking of going. I recently found out from Djcrysi that we can obtain a discount not only on tickets but rooms as well while there for the EE challenge. I got on the website and looked up hotel choices and there was a phone number. So I called them and here's the deal: three hotels are available at a very large discount CSR, AKL and ASMU. CSR is 114 a night tax incl. , AKL is 174 a night tax incl, and ASMU is 70 a night tax included. YOu can also purchase additional disney park tickets at a 10% discount. So for those wanting to stay additional days with the race maybe this well help. We are not sure yet if we will be able to take advantage especially if free dining is offered during that time. Good luck guys!

Hi everyone I am relocating from San Diego to Tampa this week and will be doing the 5K Challenge as well. I have done several 5K races in the past (all walking as I am a big guy) and have completed the races in about 45 minutes. The terrain at AK is pretty flat so this should make the race fairly simple for us walkers. Looking forward to meeting many of you at the challenge!

An update!!!

Hey guys!!! How is everybody doing? Who all is still going???
Well here's some news for you guys. Since we missed free dining by four days four days.....we decided to book our room and tickets separtely so that we could take advantage of the discount you could get on your room for doing the 5k challenge.
So yesterday we booked a room in Coronado Springs for the length of our stay at 114 per day tax and all. I was very happy with that price!!!!

If any of you guys are interested in the discounts being offered for doing the race PM me and I will give you the details I have so far. I believe you can get a 5 day hopper for 250 total as well.

So, Djcrysi and I are excited and counting down. I continue to work out. Some day's i'm very discouraged but this guy at work gave me this book on a guide to learning how to build endurance for running. So, I have been trying to go with the tips they are giving me. I continue to work out at the gym...and one of the tips they have is to keep your heart rate at its maxuim for 30mins in order to build endurance for you lungs. So i have been doing this at the gym and boy is it a work out. But it feels good.
Today i have plans before i set off for my trip to Disney tomorrow to try to run/walk/run/walk and follow some of the guidelines i've learned instead of pushing myself too much.
I would love to buy a heart rate monitor watch....Do any of you have any tips for finding one under 50 dollars????
Good luck to everyone!

We are still planning to do the race. We haven't signed up yet since dh is in charge of that part. I am encouraging him to hurry up with that so we can book 2 nights at AKL with the discount! We are already booked at POP starting Sept 27 for the bounceback offer from last year.
Tax season ends next Tuesday, so do our crazy hours so training in earnest begins Wednesday. Right now we are trying to do more walking and then we will hit the gym. UGH, I know I am going to need help!

I just saw your post and I so wish I could do this. We will be leaving Disney on the 27th of Sept. Maybe I can train with you but not actually be there. I am going to be 31 soon and I really want to do a marathon or some type of challenge. I need to lose a couple more pounds of baby weight and I thought that this would be a great goal. I was thinking about training for the January 2009 marathon but this sounds like a blast, maybe next year.
I have been wanting to do a marathon and have been researching ones by me online for a couple of weeks and then I saw this thread.
If you don't mind I would like to train with you guys, I think this is a great motivator, but unfortunately I won't be there to run the race.
to you all and keep up the good work.

You can train with us for sure!!! I need as much motivation as possible and know what its like to try to do stuff like this by yourself. Feel free to PM me and we can trade ideas and motivate each other! I too and turning 30 this year and felt this would motivate me but I would love to do the jan 2009...but unfortunately right now i cannot plan that far ahead. But feel free to join in with us and you will be right there with us in spirit the day of the race
