| So far so good! I'll be in WDW next weekend for the Minnie marathon. If I can go that I can do the EE challenge. |

| I just signed me and DH up. I am so excited. This will be the first race for both of us. I am not in the best of shape but I've been walking for about a week. We have a treadmill so I practiced today. I did 1.6 miles in 23 minutes so I think I am on track. I have to build up my stamina and the length of time that I can walk/run. scdisneyfan, I was wondering if you would mind sharing the name of the book that your co-worker let you borrow? DH has been looking for one and has been unable to find one at our bookstore. I thought if I knew the name of one we could order it. Thanks. Does anyone know what type of things will be done during the obsticle course? I think I read somewhere that they are not necessarily strenguous (I'm a bad speller). How are you preparing for this?

| DEE161: I will look at the title of that book tomorrow. Its from the 70's but i i love it!! I think it has some super great tips! We too are very excited about this race and have no idea what the obstacle course will consist of, because i'm telling you right now ..i may struggle a bit with that if it is too hard*LOL*...so i wouldnt worry about it...I think this race is for more fun and entertainment to allow us to do something so special like this after hours at disney...I've been working out and walk running...trying to train for it myself because i've never ever done anything like this!! I am currently strength, toning along with strength training. I work out on the ellipitical and the treadmill and the stairmaster. I'm working on getting my heart rate to stay at its max. I am also learning to run/walk/jog...which is going slow but i'm making a little progress. Good luck and share any tips you have!!

| I found a good book today. Runner's world complete book of beginning running. It shows all the stretches, what foods to eat and when to eat them for the best performance (before or after, etc.) It also has two training programs for people with different fitness levels. One is an 8 week program and one is a 24 week program. The 24 week program is a lot less intense, so I am starting with it and figure I can tweak it a little if I need to. At least I have an idea of how to best train now.

| You guys should check out the "Couch to 5K" training program. It is geared for beginning runners. It's a 9 week program that starts with very little running, but has you running an entire 5K by the end. You have time to do the whole program. If you are already able to run some, then you can skip a few weeks. I completed the program and ran in a 5K a couple of weeks ago. I am running in another thios Saturday at our local zoo. The program is great!!! If you are interested, you can check it out at Cool Running :: running run training marathon runners jogging jogger joggers runner run fitness exercise diet weight loss nut.... I wish I lived near enough to Disney to run in the 5K. That would be the greatest! Good luck with your training! |

| Did a 5K last weekend and even though I walked the whole race, I still finished at 54 minutes. Now I have my benchmark for training to improve my time (and maybe run a little) for the EE Challenge in September.

| I am seriously thinking about doing this. I know that it is 50% full at the moment to sign up. I am trying to talk DH into doing since we will already be at WDW. Our only dilemma is that we have DS(3) with us and since you can't take strollers inside we would have to find a babysitter. My husband is not very open to that idea at the moment. But I have talked him into doing the couch to 5k program with me so we will have endurance for our trip. I just got done walking the Susan G Komen race on Saturday and did it in an hour pushing the stroller and not trying hard at all so I know we can do way better. Look forward to hearing more from everyone that is going to complete the challenge.

| YAYYYY good to hear from ya Tammy! I am currently looking into the couch to 5k program. I am right now training indoors at my gym and we walk at night when it cools off. I think i can do this i really think i can.....I hope you guys can do this too. I would think that you could use the disney babysitting services. I've heard they are really good. I would call the people putting the EE 5K on and see if they can offer you any ideas for what to do with your children. Too bad you cant bring them too! Let me know if you decide to go...pm me or whatever! Hope you get to!

| I am continuing my training. I do some of my training inside on the treadmill, but Ifind that I enjoy training outside the most. The problem I am having is the heat. Living in Lower Alabama it gets very hot. I try to train in the AM but it is still warm. I am working on my endurance because the last mile is the hardest for me. Hope everyone's training is going great. Can't wait for our run.

| Okay I completed week one of couch to 5k. We went to the Ft Worth Zoo today so I sorta felt like I was in AK. I did do my workout on the treadmill which is on our living room while I was watching the Food Network with DisneyWorld Unwrapped. I got a kick out of that. But hey that was one of my best workouts. LOL!

| I too am continuing my workout too!! I am currently working out at the gym now four times a week with 30mins strength training and 40 mins cardio...but i decided this past weekend i'm going to take it up a notch and try 50-60mins of cardio. I am going to start at the first of july the couch to 5k. I"m just worried about the humid hot heat here in SC....but hopefull i can run at night when it cools off. I"m so excited to hear that you guys are doing this too! Keeps me motivated!
