| EE 5 K challenge: who's going and training tips. Okay so RobDVC says this will be a sticky for those of us who are going to do this challenge. I wanted to create this thread so that we could all discuss who is going, who wants to meet up to do this together, and tips for training, tracking progress, and to give everyone a little motivation to stick to the program!!!! Okay so I know myself and Djcrysi and few others are going to meet there to do this together. On the previous thread we posted the website for the 5k challenge in September. The 27th to be exact. If anyone has any questions regarding the challenge let me know and i will post the details here. So, what i'm proposing is for everyone who wants to post here to track our training progress. I will start by saying i'm turning 30 a few days before the run. I am doing this to show myself i can. I was never very athletic. But over the past few years i've decided to become more active. I recently joined the gym and bought an ellipitcal trainer for my home. I have been working out for the past two months. I have a low endurance but i try very hard I am going to start to run outside more but i've never really done this. I would love any tips to get that process started and what i should eat before a run???!!Hope everyone finds this helpful!! Crissy

| Checking in here. DH and I will be doing this also. We will start serious training after April 15. He was a high school athlete I have always been a 'spirit is willing, flesh is weak' kind of gal. But we both really want to do this so WE WILL!! I am going to ask at the YMCA if they do any personal training because this gal needs all the help she can get!

| I'm in too guys....well at least I am going to try! (Physically and financially) I am very 'nonathletic', last summer I was walking 3 to 5 miles a day. I stress......walking! I know I can do this. With 6 months to prepare I can do it!!! My first goal it endurance. I need to work back up to the walking 3-5 miles a day and go from there. I am very excited to get into shape again. This will give me a tangible goal to achieve. Its too easy when there is no specific time frame involved to push everything off 'a few more days'. Keep me informed!

| Luvsun: hey welcome ! Okay so i'm not the expert on this race but i will try to give you as many details as i know. The EE 5K run is September the 27th i believe. The race will be held in the animal kingdom after park closing. The race will consist of the 5k run along with an obstacle course at the end and trivia questions i believe. The cost is around 100 per person. It will include that days park ticket along with the race that night and the shirt and then after the race you will be able to ride the certain rides open to us only. they will have refreshments as well i believe. Hope this helps you out a little. A few of us plan on meeting from PP if you decide to go!

| Smile chaser and Starla: I am excited to see you two going into this with us. We definitely need some motivation. Keep us updated on how you guys are doing and if you do indeed sign up for the race. Feel free to PM me if you want to meet up while we are there for dinner! Good luck guys! Just a side note to everyone....Okay so here's some of my plans for training right now. I am going strong at the gym again. I am thinking in april to start timing myself running/walking/jogging hehee a 1 then 2 then 3 mile treck in my neighborhood. Right now i'm up to 3 miles on the eliptical at the gym but i'm uncertain if this is all i should do. I know i need to build my endurance since i barely have any. So some well learned advice from Djcrysi also joining in on the race...be careful with old tennis shoes when you start training. She got some blisters at first and had to buy some new ones. Be careful with that guys. Also, if you dont already drink a lot of water i think it may be time to start to learn. I recently bought a water bottle from target which has ounces on the side. Im slowly teaching myself to drink more and more based on the ounces each week. Good luck to everyone and if you have any tips chime in!!

| Thanks so much for the info. I walk -in the spring through the early fall, usually about 3 -4 miles a day. I haven't run for a long time due to a knee injury. I just talked with dh about this and asked him if he was interested in helping me train. He runs about 3 miles every other day. He said he would help me. Now - next question - is there a date you have to enter this by?

| ok so here is the web site for all your info needs.... Expedition Everest Challenge - Event Info I was looking on there tonight and wanted to post these motivating numbers about the race. The race starts at 7 pm. The 5K course will shut down at 8pm (16 minute per mile pace). The obstacle course will shut down at 8:30pm, and the Scavenger Hunt will close at 9:30pm. The site also says that teams must complete the obstacle course and scavenger hunt together. So even is my buddy speeds ahead of me...... She is going to have to wait on my slow bottom to get done with the race. So make sure that you are training with this in mind. I know I have a lot of work to do to get here but at least there are still 6 months left to work on it.

| Ooh, y'all have me intrigued! I'm a goal-oriented person, and what better goal than DISNEY!!!!!! I'm certainly not a runner, but maybe I can just pull out my power-walking skills. Thanks for the motivation - good luck to everyone! |
