Countdown comparisons

To put it all in perspective, here are a few historical comparisons for you judge about how long until you leave for yout next WDW trip. Do you leave in...

...17 days? It took Thomas Jefferson 17 days to write the U.S. Constitution.

..38 days? It took Magellan 38 days to pass through the unbearably rough strait at the tip of South America now named for him.

...59 days? It took 59 days to shoot the film Casablanca on a budget of $950,000.

...70 days? It took 70 days from death until burial to complete the ancient Egyptian mummification process.

...89 days? It took 89 days for Ann Bancroft and Liv Arnesen to become the first women to cross Antarctica on skis.

..796 days? It took 796 days to build the Eiffel Tower.

I guess the recurring theme is that good things take time! I'll be at WDW in just over one Constitution and can hardly stand the wait!

Re: Countdown comparisons

this is interesting as well as educational! Would make a good assignment for students.

Took me a while but I finally found something that took 263 days to do and that was:
Quote:
Sipos' long world record: Istvan Sipos of Hungary finished off a new world record for the longest run last month. He covered 20,203.95 kilometers (12,554 miles) in 263 days, 4 hours 41 minutes, between February 14 and November 3. The previous record of 19,030.3 kilometers (in 274 days) was set by Australian Gary Parsons, ending in January 2000.
<font size="2" face="Comic Sans MS, Arial">I also found an interesting estimate on the Holocaust. It would take 263 days to read all the names of more than six million victims who died in the Holocaus.

Re: Countdown comparisons

I am a Constitution away, but before that I have 6 exams to take. I think I would rather be Jefferson.

I can strap on those skis but the total time will get me across Antartica...and back again.
Oh well, at least I'm not building the tower.

Re: Countdown comparisons
