| Here are links to some tutorials others have done on making the Mickey head tie-dye t-shirts: Tie Dye Instructions for Spiral Mickey Shirt - The DIS Discussion Forums - DISboards.com The DIS Discussion Forums - DISboards.com - View Single Post - I'm a visual learner...tie dye? As for the "light fabric" vs. "dark fabric" transfer paper -- these are products sold by companies like Avery (available in most craft stores and office supply stores.) If you are printing on a dark colored shirt, they recommend using the paper marked for "dark fabric" -- the background stays totally white and the image doesn't "melt" into the dark fabric, making it unreadable. The "light fabric" transfers sort of "melt" into the fabric and any area that is white on the image will appear clear on the shirt and the color of the shirt will show through. If your shirt is white, it's no problem -- but, if you're shirt is light blue, the gloves and eyeballs of Disney characters will look light blue (i.e., the color of the shirt shows through, rather than staying white.) Does that make sense? Basically, once you have your image ready, you'll need to follow the transfer paper manufacturer's instructions on how to print the image on to the transfer paper (some require you to "reverse" the image and others do not.) Then you follow the manufacturer's instructions on how to properly transfer the image to your t-shirts. It's pretty easy, but may take one practice run-through -- I always recommend trying it out on an old t-shirt first, just to get comfy with the process of transfering the image. Good luck! Eileen

1. Get Mickey head in size that you want. I used my Cricut on a very large size. 2. Trace Mickey on the front of the shirt in pencil. 3. Stitch the around the Mickey head with waxed dental floss. And pull the floss until tight around (with mickey head shape as a pouch). Use elastics on top of floss. 4. Gather front of shirt at intervals (3"??) until you reach the neckband. 5. Starting at the middle of the back of the shirt. Gather at same intervals again until you get to the neck back of the shirt. 6. gather the body including the sleeves and band all the way down. (When finished, shirt will resemble a doll, with the "arms" being the front and back of the shirt) 7. Use die on each section, starting with the Mickey head. 8. Rinse and remove all of the bands. The instructions that I "borrowed" this from were much more detailed and included pictures, so I will still try and find the link for them. Here are some pictures: ![]() All of us. ![]() Closeup of DD2 - (she is seeing the Castle for the first time.) ![]() DD1's sweatshirt. ![]() Adult t-shirt. I did 1 t-shirt for each person and 1 long sleeve for each too (14 total)

| Another thing, you can use vegetable dyes (like RIT dye), but I highly recommend getting the procion dyes for brighter, more vibrant colors. Procion MX Fiber Reactive Cold Water Dye - BLICK art materials You can get little kits at fabric stores that are perfect for doing fiber-reactive dyes on t-shirts without having to buy tons and tons of stuff. | I have tried to make shirts in the past but no luck. I designed it, printed it out on the transfer paper and ironed it on...following all instructions to the T but the designs peel from the corners. After the first wash (on delicate cycle ) the design on the shirt is definitely no good anymore. Any suggestions? |

| I find I have problem with the "stick" of the transfer paper if one of the following isn't done: Use a good, heavy iron that gets hot enough. Have a good, sturdy ironing board or table to iron on top of. You do have to exert some pressure on the iron while you're doing the transfer. Don't make it too padded and don't be too wimpy. I also use a pressing cloth (any smooth piece of 100% cotton fabric will work) between the iron and the transfer paper/shirt so that I don't scorch the fabric. When I wash them afterwards, I'm not to concerned with how long they last, only because they always end up becoming "garden clothes" after the trip -- I don't tend to wear t-shirts with messages on them. However, many of my transfers have lasted for years! Eileen
