What the heck happened with prepurchasing photopass???

I prepurchased mine with no problems about a month ago..used the link on stitchkingdom. I tried to help a friend do it for her upcoming trip...can't do it anymore. I read everything that was there and I kinda understand what they're doing now...though it seems pretty stupid to me. My friend booked through a TA and was told by Photopass that she will not be offered the $99.99 prepurchase on the cd...only guests who book through Disney's site. Anyone know why they would do this???

OK Brad, I had a read of it and it does help, but I'm still a bit confused after reading this bit, which is my situation:

Please note that at this time DVC members staying on points and their guests and those who book through a travel agent will not receive this email at this time. This is because the email is sent out through Disney Destinations and not directly from Disney's PhotoPass. However, guests who fall under this category are still eligible to pre-purchase the PhotoCD for $99.95 as long as Disney's PhotoPass can verify the reservation information (DVC members should also be able to provide their Member ID in addition to reservation number).

When can I pre-purchase the CD and how as a DVC member? Do I have to make an international call? Do I go through the website somehow? Do I do it when I get to the parks? Any information you can give me would be great, as I'd like to get this rate and had been waiting to book it, only to find everything had changed.

thanks, it's been revised to add:

Those who booked through a Travel Agent or DVC Member Services must speak to a Disney's PhotoPass representative by calling 407-560-4300 and mention they have an upcoming reservation for which they will not receive the email.

So just to clarify - those of us who booked using a TA (which I will not be doing anymore) have to call to get the email sent to us?

Our TA reported that a Photopass card was being included in the package documents that offered a discount, varying from $15-20 off. So I am looking forward to receiving my documents in the next week or so to see if there is one in there. If not, I will definitely call to see if we can get the discount. Even with only 24 enhanced photos last year, we saved money on the CD over having them all printed out and feel it is worth the price if you can get the reduced rate.

We booked by calling Disney directly. In the emails they send out before the trip with suggested things for you and your family to do was a blurb that said "Save big on Disney's Photopass" I clicked the link, and it brought me to the new prepurchase site. Apparently you have to get to it through the email, though.

TA and DVC won't get the emails. TA never will (because Disney can't email TA guests) and DVC will probably eventually. They're meeting this week hopefully to find a better solution.

in the interim, TA and DVC can call and get a $50 code off of the photocd. the photopass offer that comes with travel documents does not guarantee any savings, it simply allows you to be emailed savings.

I just called and they told me that I was not eligible that only those that reserved with Disney directly would get the preorder email code (I ordered through a AAA TA and I told her this). Should I try again? I was really disappointed.

I've been talking with Jennifer 2003, who is a AAA TA and my friend booked through her. AAA books directly with Disney...so she is trying to figure out what is up.

I understand how it all works...I just don't understand why they're making this change....do they think they'll make more money by not offering the $99 prepurchase on the cd to everyone??? I'd think a lot less people would order it at full price. I know I won't in the future. $99 is a good price....but $149....yikes.

I think people were ordering the pre order cd after their trip. I think Disney is trying to stop people from doing that and with them sending emails that is linked with your reservation they want to make sure you purchase before you leave.

i'm throwing in the towel a little.

they're overwhelmed with requests and are meeting this week to try to find a good solution. it's meant to be available to everyone on site, but they can't email TA bookings (and DVC was an unfortunate oversight)

please only worry about it when your vacation is less than a week away
