When children get sick If a child gets an ear infection, or strep or anything that requires a quick exam and antibiotics, is there an on-call Physician on the Property? Does he make house-calls to the Resorts? Or does one have to venture out into Orlando?

Re: When children get sick When I was there 2 weeks ago, I sprained my ankle in the MK (*not* a "magical day"! ) When I got back to the AKL, after having been tended by 1st aid, I asked at the front desk what my options were if I needed further attention and they had several brochures from physician services that either came to the resort or I could take a taxi to relatively easily. I'm glad to say I didn't need their services, but I was also very glad to know they were there. Like all things in the "World", the CM reminded me that they wouldn't be inexpensive, but at least they were there!Hope nobody ever needs them!

Re: When children get sick When my son had a really badly infected finger, the first aid center in Animal Kingdom gave me a sheet w/all the info about the urgent care, pharmacy that delivers to your resort, etc...

Re: When children get sick We were there over Christmas and my son got very very sick. He had a 105 degree temp and was having trouble breathing. We took him to the Celebration Hospital just off 192, actually we took him twice. I would recommend them. When I went to the front desk manager to ask for help concerning my son, it was about 11pm. He did not mention any on call doctors but offered to get us an ambulance. He said that the ambulance was free of charge and our insurance would not be charged?? I'm not sure if that's right or not, but that's what he told me. We ended up taking him ourselves. He did receive excellent care on our second visit and went the extra mile to find us a pharmacy that took our insurance. Kelly

Re: When children get sick I would suggest checking with your insurance and finding the hospitals/care centers/pharmacies that your insurance covers, and bring the list with you. You may never need it, but it was a great load off my mind knowing I had it with me. I also went to mapquest and printed out directions to each. DS was going thru lots of ear infections the last time we went, so I was trying to be prepared. Thankfully I didn't need their services.

Re: When children get sick When we were there last time, DS got sick. We took him to a walk in type clinic except they came to the resort to pick him and DH up. They took them to the pharmacy and then back to the reosrt. I would use them again if I had the need. I'll have to see if I wrote down the name! Sending some pixie dust that you won't need a doctor while on vacation.

Re: When children get sick We were there once with a 14 month old with severe ear infections. There was a Quick-Medic type thing that the CMs told us how to get to (they offered to drive, but we had our car) The Quick-Medic also had the anti-biotic we needed, so one stop shopping!

Re: When children get sick There is a walk in clinic that also provides free shuttle service. When I called for my DD they told me the wait was about 2 hours so I opted for a house call doctor. He was great and had the antibiotics DD needed with him. She had strept. He took credit cards which was good cause it was $$ but worth not dragging DD out and waiting for 2+ hours. I was given an appt time etc and the Dr. was very prompt. I'd go this route again for DD but probably not for myself. Grace

Re: When children get sick When we were there last Sept, my son got sick and I asked the team at YC Concierge what my options were for I didnt have a car. They told me that I could get free travel or have a doctor visit to our room! I picked the dr call and he was there within 45 minutes and gave him some meds! For us we had to pay the 175.00 doctors bill right then and there but when we got home I called the insurance co and they reimbursed me (minus the deductible) after I sent them the receipts that was given. The medicine was called in by the doctor and delivered to the front desk and then they called me and I went and got it. Nothing worse than having someone get sick but it is nice to know that Disney does their best to get you back on your feet!

Re: When children get sick As far as sickness goes...Im a rookie to Disney, but for little kids who are prone to Croup we found that my brother gets its very easily. The thing that triggers it is mold and a high amount of humidity or mold spores in the air. We have our own nebulizer(both brothers needed it) so now when we go up North or away we make sure to get the prescription and take the nebulizer with us. My little brother is 8 and the other is nearing 2. Young brothers I know! LoL.
