Celebrating 2 Big Birthdays

Okay here it goes I will be turning 30 May 18
My daughter will be celebrating her 10th Birthday August 26
My Mother is taking the two of us as a birthdya celebtaion gift June 14-21, my question is will we not recieve the birthday treatment because it isn't our actual birthday days? I thought about making shirts and hats and buttons anyway. And also any suggestions to make daughter's birthday extra special, with a minimal budget as I am a struggling single mother???????

Re: Celebrating 2 Big Birthdays

My Birthday is May 18th Have a wonderful Birthday and Happy Birthday to your daughter she has reached double digits !!

Every trip i go on i make special shirts for my mom and I to wear to celebrate our trip and our Birthdays as well since I am May 18th and she is July 12. I went for my acutal birthday in '04 but not to a park so later in the trip i stopped and picked up a button from City Hall, Wearing the button doesn't garauntee anything but it makes it interesting when someone randomly says happy birthday!

If you don't want to ask for a button and bring your own I am sure that would bring some interesting responses, could be a great craft project to pass time to have your daughter make yours and you make hers.

Don't know if that helps any but hope it does

Happy Birthday
Amy

Re: Celebrating 2 Big Birthdays

I just spent a week of birthdays in November. Even though days weren't my "actual" birthday, they were my "unbirthday" so that counted for me! Wear the buttons! Most people won't ask if it's *really* your birthday (and they certainly aren't going to check your license!) and you will get some nice surprises, I had Happy Birthday played to me on a harmonica outside the Beauty and the Beast show, and inside Buzz, the CM sang to me (a funny song, but I don't remember it now ) It is a lot of fun. Also, if you are doing any priority seating arrangements, nicer restaurants, character meals, have it noted ON your PS that it's yours or your DDs birthday and they will, most likely, do something special for you. I got lots of chocolate creations, some with my name in chocolate at no charge for my birthday. DH and I usually celebrate our b-days together on the midpoint between our real b-days and we celebrated that in 2003 with no questions asked, in fact, everyone thought it was cool that we "shared" our b-day, so don't be shy about it!

I hear you on the single struggling mother thing, I have so BTDT! In fact, my teen DDs first trip in '93 was with a single struggling mother (me!). We weren't celebrating their birthdays, but I did let them each choose a day where they decided what we did, so they were the "Princess of the Day" They spent hours looking over guide books and making plans and while they weren't always the most efficient use of our time, it was magical b/c they had chosen the activities and it made them feel special (and it was free!) There are a few cost-effective things that WDW has in place that are fun for girls (but you do have to watch or can add up! ) They have Make Your Own Magic stations where you can make necklace, keychain, bracelet, charm bracelets that are fun to do and can be relatively inexpensive but certainly unique! They also have Build a Crown where you start with a crown and buy snap-on jewels, which is nice. In Epcot, do the KidCot stations where your DD can make a mask, adding to it at each country...it's free! Also, in the AK, there is a free program for kids to go around and get a stamp in a booklet completing different activities. You might also look into pin-trading (another thing to watch though, it can add up!). I buy lots of trading pins on eBay (do *NOT* buy the Sedesco made in Spain pins, make sure they are the *real deal*!) and give to DDs to trade. It's fairly inexpensive and they get to choose some nice and unique pins that are easily displayed on a bulletin board.

Hope that helps some and hope you have a magical and wonderful birthday and trip!!!

Re: Celebrating 2 Big Birthdays

Plenty of people get the Birthday buttons on an "unbirthday", so don't feel funny about it.

Re: Celebrating 2 Big Birthdays

If you're staying at an onsite Disney hotel, make sure to let them know when you make your reservations and again when you check in that it's a birthday celebration trip. Also, when you check in for your priority seatings, be sure to mention that you're celebrating a birthday. You may be surprised at the magic that ensues.

Re: Celebrating 2 Big Birthdays

Wow thanks everyone for the great ideas. I am definetly not going to feel wird about getting birthday buttons for the two of us. In addition I am going to make us Tshirts and sun visors or hats. I am planning on getting some secret little gifts for daughter's carry on bag, I have saved up to get her some Disney Dollars from the Easter Bunny, and I am really hoping to get breakfast with Belle in Epcot and if not that then Chef Mickeys, her favorite spot. I would like to get balloons ordered to the room b/4 we arrive so if anyone knows how I can go about getting that done, I would really appreciate it. I saw it somewhere but ofcourse can't find it now!! Also somewhere I saw there was a place to get a Birthday Card Autographed. Is that possible or was I again seeing things??? Thanks everyone!!!

Re: Celebrating 2 Big Birthdays

Maybe you could get a Fairy Godmailer (someone who is headed to Disney) to get a card autographed for you. There are lots of nice people who LOVE to spread Disney cheer. Ask around...if I were going anytime soon, I'd offer, but alas, my next Disney trip isn't even in the works.

Re: Celebrating 2 Big Birthdays

Hi! I know first hand how fun & exciting it is to plan a WDW Birthday celebration! A cute thing to do is to bring your own balloons, crepe paper, etc. and decorate the room one night after your dd goes to sleep. I did this for my dd's 5th b-day and she was so excited when she woke up that morning. I even purchased a Mickey Mouse themed b-day card prior to our trip to have signed by the characters in the parks just as they sign the autograph books. I even purchased a Cinderella bracelet & necklace (75% off!) at our local Disney store and brought it with us to CRT for Cinderella to "give" to my dd. Just be creative & have fun with it...the CM's will help you in any way they can!
