| An Amazing Journey: Ch. 7 -- A Complication A Complication I’ve been having headaches off and on for a month or so. Last time I was in to the doctor they noted my blood pressure was up. They said if it went over 140/95, that I should call. Well, yesterday I had a terrible headache and felt dizzy, so I went to the grocery store to check my blood pressure... 150/105. Geez oh petes! So I called, went in, and while my blood pressure had gone down the doc still says I have pregnancy-induced hypertension (high blood pressure). Lovely. She checked the baby’s heart to make sure everything was okay, and everything is. I got to see him/her again, and I could see the long spinal cord, which was cool. Oh, and a hand was up and waving. So now I’m on medicine for high blood pressure. An Aside from Dave... I may be quiet, but that doesn’t mean I’m not delighted. You know how dads-to-be tend to fade into the background during pregnancies - we’re not the ones carrying, so who cares how we’re feeling, right? Be supportive, be considerate, give comfort, groove on the miracle of it all, and occasionally take some abuse when darling dearest is having a rough time (share the joy, share the pain). Jennifer now has a blood pressure cuff and is taking her bp meds. We now know that I’m not under as much stress as she is. As to relaxation and stress — she has to balance the stress of not working with the stress of working (workaholics are like that). We’re doing our best to mix some relaxation and pleasure in with the work load — I think she’ll do just fine. I had a follow-up appointment on March 5 to check my blood pressure. It’s down to 118/68 and the doctor is happy — so am I. She listened for the heartbeat on her Doppler and found it right away. That always makes my day. My next appointment is Monday, March 8, when I have the amniocentesis. I’ll be out of commision for two days after that. I’m putting myself on bedrest just to be safe. I don’t want to be the 1 in 200 who miscarries from an amnio. Dave hasn’t yet had the pleasure of an appointment with me, but he is going to the amnio appointment on Monday (thankfully). He has heard the heartbeat, however, as I have the Doppler here and I’ve recorded it for him. Here’s a funny story: We we out to celebrate my Mom’s birthday with my sister, brother-in-law, and their two kids, Megan and Natalie. I hadn’t seen them in just over a month. At the end of our meal, I was standing up to put my coat on and Megan walks up to me (she’s three), puts her hand under my shirt on my belly, and says “Jenny, your tummy looks big.” I spluttered then said, “So you think I’m geting fatter, Megan?” Then I busted out laughing. You see, Kim hasn’t told my nieces yet because she’s sure they’ll blab it to someone, and it’s still a secret until Allie knows. Kim overhears what I say to Megan, then Megan says to Kim, “Mommy, when you had a tummy like that you had a baby.” We were all floored. Megan was 13 months old when her sister Natalie was born! We didn’t confirm it for her, but I’d say my three-year-old niece figured it all out on her own. She’s one smart cookie! [Read the next chapter.] |

| Re: An Amazing Journey: Ch. 7 -- A Complication ºoº Now, Jennifer...didn't I say not to scare me again. And here you go putting at the top of Chapter 7, and in bold print COMPLICATIONS! ºoº ºoº Jennifer, you sound like you could specialize in the field. Congratulations on studying up on everything. And P.I.H. is nothing to fool around with. And you were on top of everything with your instincts, your learned knowledge, and your blood pressure cuff. ºoº ºoº Hi, Dave. I know that you are there. From the few times that I have watched you talking with others at Mousefest, you sound like a very caring, loving person. And I'm sure that you are also a caring and loving husband and father. ºoº ºoº I am reading your chapters and I almost forget that you already delivered a beautiful baby. ºoº ºoº These writings sound like the beginning of a self-help book for mothers and fathers to be. And I say that as a compliment.ºoº ºoº On to Chapter 8. ºoº ºoº Sincerely, ºoº Ray ºoº |
