| Saving for Disney!!! Any new ideas? Okay guys, I read all the posts in the stickey thread called "Some money saving tips..." and have a few good ideas for you.
I drove for a fast food resteraunt to pay off our first trip. I posted a note to myself saying that I wasn't really hungry and I found that I spent a lot less on fast food both when I was working and when running errands.
I too am able to save bottle funds for our trip. In MI we get 0.10 for each bottle. Now you can not turn in bottles from other states though. We have our own bar codes on our bottles cuz people were buying drinks in Ohio and then turning them in across the border. Nice idea, but the cash cow has run dry!!!
I bought a popcorn cup on our last trip and now it is our change bucket. When it gets full enough to be tempting I take it to the Disney Store and change it in for a Disney Gift Card.
Also, my kids & I have a press route and when we get paid I give the kids each $5.00 to spend and the rest of our money is going into a vacation account for Disney.
We have a shop called Gordon's Food Services in our area. It is a resteraunt supply store that has fund raising candy boxes. The kids & I sell them in our neihborhood for their spending money. This is a good way to save some cash cuz we only had to invest once. When a box is sold I take the original investment and buy a new box. The rest is profit and whichever kid does the selling gets half the profit and half the profit goes into a character breakfast fund.
By saving money these ways we have been able to take two Disney vacations and are saving for our third.
This trip and our last trip the kids will have paid for themselves and all their own spending money. I know they enjoyed themselves more than some kids because they had to earn the trip themselves! |

| Re: Saving for Disney!!! Any new ideas? I had a bunch of college texts and various book sitting around gathering dust. I was able to sell most of them on Amazon.com as used books. It surprised me how much some of these fetched and it only required a lot of hard work, postal supplies and frequently running to the Post Office, but every penny went to our upcoming cruise. After subtracting for supplies and postage (using USPS Media Mail saves $$) I raised nearly $1,500. Of course I had a lot of books.
My kids have made things to sell, wrote stories we entered in contests, done extra chores and now they want to do errands and yard work for neighbors for pay. The prospect of going to Disney has been a great motivator and extremely inspirational.
I am sure that like yours, my kids will feel very good about having contributed so much towards the vacation.

| Re: Saving for Disney!!! Any new ideas? How about selling some of their unwanted toys and out-grown clothes on eBay? Or making something to sell on eBay? I hand-painted jeans last year and neted about $40/ pair. Good luck! |

| Re: Saving for Disney!!! Any new ideas? The kids just got back from selling candy in our neighborhood. When asked what they were selling for of course they said a trip to WDW. The man was shocked they would have to pay their own way and told them I was a "mean parent" and I should pay for them. Boy, I would hate to see what he thought of me when they told him I wouldn't be giving them any spending money either. Either they earn their own or they go w/out. It worked very well on our last trip. They knew well ahead of time I wasn't going to buy for them. And not one of them asked me for anything once. If they didn't have enough for something I would hear, "Mom, could you remind me that I really want this next time so I will save enough money?" My jaw almost hit the groung every time!!!
Anyway that's another $25.00 for Chef Mickey or O'hana!!! Yahoo!! |
