Disney Visa

Hi Guys,
I just got a new Disney Visa(I'm in big trouble now!)But I got it to help pay for a trip to WDW. My questions to you is do you really see it as a good thing-like did you use it to pay for tickets and meals in the park? How long did it take you save up enough points to even do that? Sorry for all the questions-I just want to make sure I understand.
Thanks Guys!

Re: Disney Visa

You only get 1% back so getting up enough to pay for "big ticket" items could take years, depending on how much you spend on your credit card. We use Discover, and with 1% back we get about $300 a year. We put EVERYTHING on our card and pay it off every month. Sometimes you can even pay your bills with your credit card (online) like water, electric, etc. Then pay it all at the end of the month on your Visa. Be aware though, once you transfer those Disney Reward dollars to the actual card that they send you in the mail, those dollars will expire within a year. Keep them banked online instead of transferring them to the card and I'm pretty sure they don't expire. I accidently let about $5 lapse one year. About a month before your trip, transfer all your Reward Dollars to the card to take with you. Then, don't forget to use it! I've taken mine to WDW and totally forgotten to use it before. Dunce me.

Actually, I love putting everything I spend on the card, like groceries, fast food and all. It keeps really good track of what you've spent AND you get that 1% back. If you do it that way, you'll rack up some bucks.

Go through your other credit cards, see how much you spent last year, add in what other things you can possibly use your card for and then calculate 1% of that. You'll get a pretty good idea of what you can expect out of it. Just DON'T carry a balance on the card. It'll totally negate the 1% you earned.

Wow, I'm pretty wordy aren't I. Sorry.

We put everything on our card, and pay it off every month. Right now, we have over $700. I'm waiting to use them until I really need them, but we've used them in the past mainly for meals!

Re: Disney Visa

I have just over $300 on my Disney Visa card since October of last year. I plan on using whatever is on that card toward paying for our trip in November. I'll help pay for a few meals which will be nice since we're not doing the dining plan this time.

Re: Disney Visa

Be careful of paying utilities with a credit card. Some companies charge you a % for paying with a credit card.

Also, read your statement very well even if it's online. Sometimes they come out with a special that you get double rewards if you spend at least $500 a month. They did that a few years ago when we were buying a new roof.

Re: Disney Visa

And don't worry if it's not a lot! Every little bit helps. I go twice a year, once in February and once in October, so I'm usually only able to accumulate $50-$75 on a giftcard. But it covers a few counter service meals, which is totally worth the small bit of hassle of charging and then paying it off at the end of every month.
