Ever use a Disney Gift Card at WDW?

I am thinking of putting part of our savings for WDW on a Disney Gift Card so we don't have to carry so much money around with us. Can you use it to pay for food, etc. or is it only usable for things like souvenirs? Basically, where can I use the card?

Thanks in advance for the information!!

I think you can use it most anywhere. I can't recall how I've used mine, but I'm pretty sure both souveniers and food purchases were made with one. I also think I used one to pay for waterpark tickets once.

I think the list of where you can’t use it is shorter than where you can use it!

You can’t use it at any non-Disney owned hotels such as the Swan & Dolphin resorts and hotels on Hotel Blvd. (it can be used at Disney merchandise locations within these hotels.)

McDonalds, Jellyrolls, Rainforest Café, and the Richard Petty Driving Experience also don’t take the gift card.

Other than that, you can pretty much use it however you want – food, merchandise, tickets, recreation. Basically any place that can take credit cards and/or a room charge can take a gift card (some small carts may not be able to take the card).

You can use it to pay off the charges on your room card, too.

I love them! You can use them to pay for your travel package or cruise, too! Our school sells them at face value and then a percentage is put in our tuition account. Now there's an incentive! Go to WDW and get money toward Catholic school!

Not at Disney World but at Disneyland I used only gift cards. It worked out pretty well. Helped from having to used Traveler's Checks which can be a PITA! In December I will only use gift cards at WDW! BTW...you can also use Disney Dollars. I found them a bit too cumbersome but they are kind of fun.

Are you able to find out how much is left on the card when you buy something? Wondering if the balance shows up on the register tape or screen?

Great question! I never thought about that. It would be easier to manage if it gave you a balance after each purchase.

The balance is printed at the bottom of your receipt.

Thanks everyone for helping me with this question. I think I will do this because it will be easier to keep up with and keep us from over spending. (which is easy to do at WDW )

Make sure you get the gift card that is good at the parks. There is also one only good at the stores or disneyshopping.com
