Is it a worthy investment

to get the Sunday paper for the coupons? Would it be better for me to just stop at the store on the way home from the gym each Sunday and buy a copy?? Or subscribe? At the moment I don't get the paper at all.

Our Sunday paper goes on sale for $1 on Monday, so if I need coupons, I just pick up a late copy. It's definitely worth the $1 most of the time.

I don't have the paper delivered, Terri. I guess if you use lots of coupons it might be worth it. I don't use coupons either. I use to try, but it seems like they offer coupons for all the stuff I don't buy.

A lot of the coupons in the paper are completely worthless to me, so I would have to say that the Sunday paper isn't worth the investment for just the coupons. I like the coupons that the store gives me at checkout time. These items I usually buy. Those bonus cards are good for something I guess.

I just signed up for the Grocery Game (Coupons, Grocery Coupons - TheGroceryGame.com). They are having a $1 four week trial and then it's $10 for 8 weeks. They had several printable coupons on their website, too ($7 worth for things I needed). It gives you a spreadsheet of items on sale and which coupons (including the date/circular) to use for the best deal. I'll be getting free toothbrush, toothpaste, and cider vinegar tablets this week as well as saving at least 50% off on 12 other items I need. I think it will make it worth the $1.25 per week, plus $1 for my "day old" newspaper!

We get the Sunday paper delivered and you can usually bargain a good subscription price with them. Our paper is $1.50/week but we pay .80 by paying 26 weeks at a time. That said, some weeks there are no coupons in our paper at all, other weeks there are some - but not for anything we use. So, it's kind of hit or miss. If you're going to get it for the coupons only, I'd say forget it - not worth it.

Here's an alternate idea. Do you know someone who gets the paper who doesn't use the coupons? I won't buy our paper for 1.75. We get it at work. I "steal" the coupons which most of them are like 1.00 off nowadays. That way you are not paying for a paper and still getting the coupons!

I subscribe to the paper because I enjoy reading the newspaper on Sunday Mornings. But in our local paper there is usually a $5.00 off coupon to restaurants when you buy two dinners. I know alot of people are trying to save money by not going out at all. But I like to eat out on occasion and those coupons actually come in handy when you have 4 people in the family that eat adults dinners now.

It's cheaper to subsribe to the Sunday paper than to buy it from the stands - now whether or not you'd use enough coupons out of it to justify the cost at all, I'm not sure. We get the paper daily, and we do use a lot of the coupons.
