Went to a TON of stores today

And because I knew I was involved in a "No Buy Jan." - I bought almost nothing!!
  • Took the dishes I bought this weekend back to Linens N' Things - they weren't as nice looking in my house as they were in the store!! (179.77 credited back to my bank account)
  • Barnes and Noble is RIGHT next to the Linens N' Things. Went there - bought NOTHING!!! (Personal best here - usually I spend $400 +/- a month there!)
  • looked for dishes at : Target, Meijer, Macy's, Bed Bath and Beyond, Tuesday Mornings, Marshalls (2 of them - in diff. Towns), Kohl's, JCPenney, and Home Spot.
  • I did buy something at Home Spot - 3 Hummel Dishes that were in the Christmas mark-down bin for $2!!! They'll make great gifts next year.
  • Went to Second Stories, a local second hand book store, and found 4 books for $3 each that I wanted to read - savings over B&N - tons!!
  • DH and I went to Lowe's and bought stuff to re-do our bathroom - just spruce it up - new light fixtures (on sale), paint, and an over the toilet cabinet - using...Gift cards we got for Christmas and about $10!!
All in all, not a bad day for me. Oh, and the B&N and Target have a Starbucks in them, AND, I passed probably 12 in my day today - and I stopped at NONE of them!!!

Starbucks is my kryptonite. Seriously, well done.

And congrats on finding the used book store, and buying used. I worked at B&N for a while, just to support my book habit

For me the whole point of this exercise is to save money (of course), but to also make it work in my life. I will always be a book person, so knowing that I need to make better choices in how I get books (our library is really horrible, even with inter-library loan) is the real test. How can I be me without the excess? It sounds like you did really well.

Congrats! LV
