Unhappy Maybe selling DVC to help towards the Debt-Free...

We may be selling DVC to help towards our trying to become Debt - Free . I have known this day was probably coming, but, still....

We have just started reading Dave Ramsey's book and DH (as well as me) has had to face the man in the mirror. This includes probably selling DVC (which I have suggested for the last 6 months or more) Yet, we know we will be starting on the right track and all. At least we have enjoyed a few trips w/ it (got spoiled along the way), but next time we will be able to pay cash for it instead . May be 5 years or so from now, but hey, look at the possibilities to call Home again when the time comes (just not the price though)Just had to vent...

I'm sorry that you may have to do that. That's exactly why I won't let DH get one right now, too. Even though we'd both really love to own one.
Best wishes in becoming debt-free!

I know this decision has to be hard, I am finding it hard to decide to cancel Septembers trip to Disney. I am starting Dave Ramseys plan too and am facing this stuff myself.

We will all be in a better place financially in a few years!!

It's a tough decision but think about how much better it will be for your family in the end.

tough choice - but makes sense -- we would love to buy in -- but are saving to pay "cash" as we don't go into debt for vacations. However, we keep using our "vacation" money to go on trips

We had plans to "buy in" this year as well..... but with the reality of not really having anything setting in..... we had to understand that its just not in our budget. DH would do it today if i would let him...but he understands that what i am doing is to better our family. Disney will still be there...... and we will go back. But we just cant afford to purchase DVC right now.....as pretty and inviting as it looks.... we just cant do it. Once we are debt free THEN we can discuss vacations again.

Good luck in your decision......i cant imagine it will be an easy one....

Do you own outright? If so, had you thought about renting your points for cash to pay for the maintenance dues and some extra, instead of selling?

Just trying to think of options. It will cost a lot more later to buy back in.

But if you haven't paid off your DVC and owe both payments and maintenance, then maybe it's the best decision.

Wow, that is a TOUGH decision to make. I bet that the financial peace of mind will be worth it in the long run, though.

As so many others have said, you have to do what is best for you and your family. I truly believe in being debt free - we have worked towards that for many years.
I wanted so badly to buy into DVC for many years. But dh being the money smart one of the family, told me that we could only consider buying into DVC when we had gotten our sons through college. Well, let me tell you - those years were lean! At one time we had all three boys in college! For the last number of years, we had been putting aside a small amount of money every month for the eventual purchase into DVC. It took us a while - but we finally were able to buy!
I wish you the best with your determimnation and efforts to be debt free!
