I'm going back to basics here... no more Dunkin Donuts coffees in the morning and no buying lunches... I figure I'll be saving $110 a month

Still working on the not wasting food thing, but I think I am going to add no extra take out or dinners out. I know better than to cut them off completely (we all need a break once in a while) but last month we had quite a bit of pizza and went out more than I would have liked to. I have the occasional dinner out built into my budget, and I need to stick to that!

I did well with bringing lunches last month. I remembered 8 out of the 10 days I was scheduled to work, so that was a savings of $56. I didn't do as well in the not throwing out food department, so I think I will concentrate more on that this month. I should clean out the frig today so that I can take stock of what we have and start fresh. On a positive note, I did plant my sweet potato that was sprouting, and it is looking really nice. I think I may need to bring it inside when it gets cold out. I would love to get a few sweet potatoes out of it!

My goal for the month is to be able to add money to my WDW vacation fund.

I'm giving up all vending machine purchases. I have a case of bottled water in my car, and I will be taking all of my meals and snacks to school and work. No more late afternoon M&Ms. Oh, the things I give up just to be on board.

You can do it, Teresa! What I have been doing is buying things in bulk at either Walmart or Sam's Club, and then filling up a baggie with treats to keep in my backpack. It is a lot cheaper to buy a big bag of trail mix or M&Ms over buying them from the vending machine. I can't give up chocolate entirely!

I did very very badly last month. I pulled a Hamstring which cost me thousands of dollars. If I give up nothing this month I will still do better.

I should also give up saying yes to children with school/band/gymnastics/boy scout/girl scout forms.
I won't because I know how hard it is for kids to approach and adult and ask. The only thing is: MY kids don't sell stuff, except the GS cookies Lauren sells. And most of the people I buy things from (or buy from their kids), the kids are ALSO in Girl Scouts or they have ANOTHER child in Girl Scouts, so they don't reciprocate.

WTG, Janine! We got rid of cable a few months ago. It was really hard at first as there were several shows that I really liked. However, as time has gone by I have reacquainted myself with network TV. We also signed up for Netflix (which was much cheaper than cable), and have been watching movies lately. Plus I've been spending more time doing other things around the house. Good luck!

Thanks They did talk me into suspending it for 6 months. I figure go along with that to soften it a bit, then call back in March to cancel. It was hard just calling I know I will get used to it though.

I have to call Verizon back Monday before 5pm to get a dryline they said to cancel my phone and keep DSL. So that should be taken care of on Monday.

I did a lot better in October not wasting food than ever before. I actually used up all the lunch meat and lettuce that I purchased throughout the month! I also remembered to put things in the freezer before they went bad/stale (I'm talking to you, whole wheat pitas!). I was especially pleased because I was traveling so much.

I'm going to continue my not-wasting-food effort (as well as my no-lunches-out effort - which has become second nature to me at this point) - and I think I'll add on the dryer thing. I'm bad about warming up clothes at least once before folding - in fact, I have a load in the dryer right now at home. This won't actually help my personal bank account, as I don't pay the electric bill, but saving is saving, and it's greeeeen.
