If you sell on Craigslist how do you..

have the people respond to your ad? Do you have them email you using the Craigslist anonymous email or do you put your phone number in your ad? I seem to have a lot of people email that they are interested, yet when I email back with my phone number, they email back with that crazy phony baloney about sending a certified check. Do you meet people to exchange your stuff for their money, or do you have them come to your house? I want to sell some toys/clothes at $2-10 and it seems strange to set up an appointment to make 2 dollars. So what do you do?

I always list my phone number just to speed up communication. It is entirely up to you, though, whether you feel comfortable doing that. As far as picking up stuff, I usually have people come to my house-but only if DBF will be home as a general rule. I have had people come during the day, but only if I knew that they were moms with children, school teachers etc. If it was a guy, then never without DBF being home (no offense to the guys on the boards.) I try to bundle items that are similar to make it worth people's time to come over. Good luck!

Do you have any consignment sales/stores in your area? Craigslist makes me nervous and I would struggle with having people come to my home or going to someone elses. I have only sold on ebay, but the items were obviously selling for a little more than a couple of dollars.

I did it by email. When I received an email from an interested party, then we exchanged phone numbers. Both items were larger, and both times, DH was home when the buyers stopped by.

If you have clothes, you might try to sell them in a bundle, like "Girl's clothes, sizes 10-14, good condition, 20 assorted items, $30", rather than each item individually.

I put my number and we meet up in a restaraunt parking lot or somewhere really busy. Cash only of course.

I use my phone number and I require Paypal or cash only. DH and I will
meet people at a mall parking lot because I don't want anyone coming to
our house. I do this also with my eBay auctions that are local/pick up only.
With Paypal the payment must clear before I meet with them.

As for toys, if they are smaller pieces I would sell them in a bundle. I also
agree with the consignment stores/sales. I sell tons there and since my DD
is still little, I also buy some of her clothes and toys there also. Great deals
depending on what you are looking for.

I always put a phone number and avoid the email because that will most likely detour any scammers....for what you are trying to sell though, you might think of using Craigs list to advertise a yardsale instead of making little $2.00 appointments....we have a truck for sale out there right now and we have it advertised for contacting our phone number.
