| Remember the $1700 car repair? We ended up with $1700 worth of car repairs a few months ago. We took it to the same mechanic we've been using for the last few years and never had an issue. After forking over $1700 for two separate jobs (it didn't run right after the first $800 repair, so we took it back in and ended up with $900 more) the car was still hesitating and running weird. DH was completely fed up with our regular mechanic, so he asked people he works with if they knew of anyone. One of the nurses told him to take it to her mechanic. They've used him for 20+ years and she said he's very trustworthy, doesn't do unnecessary work or try to pad the bills, etc. This guy knew right away what was wrong as soon as DH told him how the car had been acting. He had it fixed the same day and the grand total for the repair? $230 I'm so annoyed that we gave the original guy so much money when he didn't even FIX anything, but glad that the car finally runs. And it runs well. Like it's brand new. We have an 18 hour drive to Disney next week, so it helps to have a car you can trust to get you down there and back without breaking down somewhere in between. Why is it so hard to find an honest mechanic?

| I glad the 2nd mechanic was able to fix (and not charge you an arm and a leg). We have a regular mechanic we go to (as well as our family). That's crazy how you've been using your 1st mechanic for years and then he pulls this stuff. Don't they realize that they will loose customers in the end (and any other referrals).

| I am very thankful that it was finally fixed right. I was surprised about our regular mechanic too. We've been taking our cars to him for the last 5 or 6 years, so it was really odd that this happened now. But we have a sound vehicle to get to Florida in, so that's the important thing. We almost canceled our trip to Disney over that $1700, but decided to just tighten up extra hard and save up the money again instead. I'm glad we did.

| I think I'd do that too. I am very lucky that I have a wonderful mechanic. It's priceless!
