Consignment Shop or Ebay?

Hey guys! I have a question I was hoping to get some opinions on. I have recently lost quite a bit of weight and cleaned out my closets. I have lots and lots and LOTS of clothes that need to go (like 4 giant tubs full, and that's after my sisters have pawed through them!). Some of them are really nice labels and in very good condition - I'm sorry to admit that a bunch still have the tags on!

I was thinking of either taking them to a consignment shop or selling them on eBay. I've never sold anything on eBay, although I have bought quite a bit. I've also never taken things to a consignment shop to sell. I was thinking eBay might bring me the most $$$, but don't really know since I've never done either. Also, I wondered if not having a "seller rating" might slow down any eBay sells I attempt (and while I don't mind investing more time in it if it'll bring me a good profit, I'm not totally interested in spending hours upon hours taking pictures, packaging, shipping, etc. if it's all going to work out about the same, money-wise, as a consignment shop).

What do you guys think would be the best choice?

I love using the consignment shops for DS's clothes and toys. It's fast and simple. Plus I have the option of picking up anything that doesn't sell or donating it. You can always put the items that don't sell in consignment on Ebay for another attempt at selling them.
My other favorite option is to just donate them and take the claim on my taxes.

I've consigned clothes before and have been partially happy. Not everything will sell, and they'll only take current season or next season's clothing, so you'll likely have to do several batches over the next year. Whatever doesn't sell, you can pick up and then Ebay if you want later.

I've always been very successful at selling clothes at a consignment shop. I have never sold anything on ebay, but to me it seems that it would be easier just taking my laundered sellable clothes to the consignment shop rather than taking pictures, downloading them, etc.. I hope that you make some good money selling whatever you have.

I'd say take them to the consignment shop. BTW, what was your plan for losing weight. I'm trying and so far I've lost 10 pounds since March 31st.

I do both eBay and Consignment Stores (especially for DD stuff) and have
done very well. I go on eBay and will take a look at certain items and brands
and will track them to see how they are selling. Then I will list those that
are currently selling well and are in the right season. What doesn't sell on
eBay I will take to the Consignment store. If it doesn't sell there I will either
keep it for next year/season or I will donate it.

If you have a friend (SAHM) who would like some extra money you might want
to ask them if they sell on eBay and if so, ask if they would like to list your
stuff for a % of the profit. They would save you the time and trouble.

If you decide you want to go through eBay, see if there are any "FastDrop" type places (they run a service where they will do all the work of getting your stuff photographed and up for auction, shipped to the buyer, and re-listed if the item doesn't sell initially. They take a percentage of the final price the item sold for.

I haven't used them personally, but it's an option.
Eileen

PS: You look maaaaah-valous darlink! Congrats!

Thanks for the suggestions, y'all I think I'm gonna sort through the tubs and pull out the nicer things, and then do a little research on eBay. If it's worth it, I might sell at least some on eBay; if not, to the consignment shop it goes! Whatever doesn't sell is going to the thrift store (this stuff needs to get out of my house!).

Congrats! 10 lbs since March is awesome! I've been doing Weight Watchers since last June and have lost about 45 lbs. I totally drink the WW juice - it is really the only sane thing to do, as it isn't a diet; just a way of tracking portions and what you eat. You don't have to buy special food and nothing is off limits (I "save" up for Mexican food every week!). I'll probably stay on it forever in some form or fashion, just because it keeps me accountable. I've had some plateaus and small gains along the way, but all in all it's been a really satisfying and surprisingly easy/positive experience! Good luck!

Congratulations, Scarlett!!!! (And this glass of wine doesn't cost any points ). I too have been doing weight watchers since the beginning of the year and I'm down 40, but still have 20 to go. I agree that it's a lifestyle and not a diet. I do admit to getting obsessed with my points tracking though and my biggest obstacle was picking the right things at resturants and also immediately putting half away. My sister lost 35 has has maintained that since March. Let me know when you post your clothes on Ebay, I may have to buy them from you until I get to my goal weight (which should be August/September). Congratulations again on your loss!
