| Cheap Laundry Soap I saw something on the news the other day about a lady who made her own laundry soap. After searching, I found the recipe here: The Jim Bob & Michelle Duggar Family I made the dry soap for front loaders, and I'm amazed! ONE Tablespoon of the soap DOES clean an entire front loader!! DH is thrilled - we figure we'll save somewhere in the neighborhood of $500-$600 a year. I'll still be using my Downey, though - and the way it's supposed to be used, not the "Put it in a jar with water and sponges and use the sponge in the dryer" method. |

| I totally do the "vinegar in the rinse cycle" trick -- it doesn't make the clothes smell vinegary AT ALL, but it does make them soft and it helps get rid of soapy build-up. Plus... it's darned cheap! Eileen

| I can't really make the liquid version as I don't feel like having a 5 gallon bucket of laundry soap sitting around. I would make the powdered version but I only wash in cold water and I don't think it would dissolve. |

I was afraid of the same thing, because I only use hot for towels and sheets, cold for everything else. Decided I'd try it - and it does dissolve! | |
